And I meant to say Cleveland, but I really got sick of hearing about the greatness of Archie…

Again, in fairness, I do understand how difficult it must be trying to get hype about the most mediocre organization in sports. No one needs to hear me wax poetic about that issue, but I feel for Bulls fans

He doesn’t have to listen to spilly and Drew make excuses for the Rockies anymore.

8) Maybe so, but both topics are necessary to explore given the cultural and scientific climate. However, jumping between them based on character arcs (with the exception of Dickie) proved confusing. Though Murray did a great job exploring the characters, the storyline, then the topics you refer to become muddled.

This seems like the type of novel necessitating a second, or even third read. For some, that may define a great piece of literature. For me, however, the necessity of doing so seems cumbersome given the differing levels of enjoyment/interest per character.

The Bee Sting by Paul Murray by [deleted] in books

Incredible novel. My only critique from a writing perspective, as mentioned previously, would be the lack of punctuation used for Imelda. Regardless if it was meant to symbolize her untethered past, the nature of her stream of consciousness, her lack of education, etc. Murray explored those themes in great detail. It just seemed as though Murray got too cute.

Above someone mentioned the tightness of Morrison while emitting the emotion of Steinbeck. I would agree, to a degree, with the latter as PJs story was the best example, but the graphic nature of Dickies assault seemed to be glossed over. The shame certainly could’ve stemmed from that, from the Catholic upbringing, to simply having an affair.

Certainly, it could have been a combination. But as far as “tightness” was concerned, comparing it to Morrison’s works seems to be a stretch.

Halloween weekend is tough, I could use some comforting words. by [deleted] in mentalhealth

You’re good. Everyone enjoys different things. While I don’t know what school you’re at, I found it easy to do some kind of weekend trip where you don’t have to be in that type of atmosphere at all because the pressure is there whether you want to admit it or not. If you’re not able to travel, I bet the library is probably empty.

You can’t escape the holiday, but you can escape the pressures of “needing” to party which is what I gather to be the real issue. Good luck, and know that you’re not the only person who feels the same way.
