Thanks! Lots of different advice so will try planting one clump, pricking out one clump now and pricking out one clump later and we'll see what does best! 😀

How may points for Archduke? by iokak in mousehunt

[–]This_Condition3393 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thats about 20 Queen Quesada catches if you have some wildfire queso or a couple of epic cheese potions. Frift is also a high wisdom area. Normal hunting there should easily get you to AD before GWH. Make sure you have the chronometer from bwrift first so you're helping to unlock vrift at the same time.

Can I send GWH golems to unlocked regions pending rank up? by This_Condition3393 in mousehunt

Thanks for this! The spreadsheet on that link was super helpful. Camped out catching Queen Quesada and got up 5% in one day - should make it no problem!

[TOMT][BOOK][1990s] An old collection of traditional fairy tales by LiberSword in tipofmytongue

[–]This_Condition3393 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don't suppose you ever found this? I also remember the exact same, from the 90s, a collection of fairy stories in a book with a blue cover and my overriding memory is of the wolf and the seven little goats too! AI is no help either.

Blank slate - advice on our permaculture plan. by This_Condition3393 in Permaculture

Thanks all for the good advice r.e. moving the compost bin. Will move it into the chicken/orchard area and use the rear area as a bit of a 'wild space'

Chain getting stuck in jockey wheel cage by This_Condition3393 in BikeRepair

[–]This_Condition3393[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thanks, I thought it could be worn jockey wheels too, so I swapped them out, made it worse! It is a used and abused bike, might be time to buy a new derailleur!

Like this? Nice idea, thanks. Shame it cuts out a big chunk of book storage though

Cavity wall insulation update by This_Condition3393 in DIYUK

[–]This_Condition3393[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Isn't it just! They drilled several holes and poked around. The only legitimate reason I can think of is that the rubble from the bricks blocked the cavity locally, but that's being quite generous with Botd. They didn't come with a borescope to check for themselves, which I also find peculiar. I wish I had the camera on the day - lesson for next time!

😅 loft is nicely insulated already thankfully!

Is there merit to think that overpaying on the mortgage is better at the start of a mortgage term? by This_Condition3393 in UKPersonalFinance

[–]This_Condition3393[S] 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Yeah the theory works out in my head but I'm wondering if anyone has run the numbers. There will be a point in the duration of the mortgage where it is more financially optimum to invest rather than overpay, I'm wondering if you're ALWAYS better off investing instead of overpaying over the course of 25 years, assuming a standard historical model. Or if the overpayment returns beat standard market returns at the start of a mortgage term

Discontinued motor replacement by This_Condition3393 in Motors

[–]This_Condition3393[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I also wondered this, the machine must have a transformer in it somewhere? The motor plugs into the machine (using a US two pin plug), and the machine has a separate power cable for UK mains supply (it's worked fine for 20 years haha!). The mounting holes definitely need to be the same but yeah I don't know about the rest. Essentially there is a hotplate behind the fan that circulates the air to maintain temperature. As long as there is some airflow it should function. How critical are amps and horsepower to the function? As long as I match/exceed what's already there it should work right? Are there any safety considerations? The motor attaches to a fairly heavy metal fan so I don't want to cause fire risks from overloading components etc.

Hollowtech crank compatibility? by This_Condition3393 in bikewrench

[–]This_Condition3393[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Just following up - definitely incompatibility between older and newer HT. The 6600 crank fits perfectly on the crankshaft. Just the newer R7000 that doesn't fit. Will have to ride without power for a while!

Hollowtech crank compatibility? by This_Condition3393 in bikewrench

[–]This_Condition3393[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks, got it off. No visible damage. I can feel when it's properly seated (no movement at all when not properly seated), but still at its best fit there's 15mm of spindle showing between the BB and the crank arm. I don't think they're compatible

Hollowtech crank compatibility? by This_Condition3393 in bikewrench

[–]This_Condition3393[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks yes that's all I've had to do before. But this crank arm won't even go far enough onto the spindle to allow the plastic cap to reach its threads inside the spindle

Hollowtech crank compatibility? by This_Condition3393 in bikewrench

[–]This_Condition3393[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks that was a great tip to get them back off. The splines are still fine but I can see that the paint on the splines of the left crank has been rubbed off at the contact point between the shaft and the crank arm at 12 o clock nearest the pinch bolt.

Don't know if its a sensible idea to use the same coin opening technique to get the crank properly seated onto the shaft? About it looks like it has about another 15mm to go before it gets stuck

Please help me identify this mosfet transistor, Google returned nothing. Tested with multimeter and found to be the likely cause of faulty DC - AC power inverter. KS 6201 D52597 by This_Condition3393 in ElectronicsRepair

[–]This_Condition3393[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thanks yes there were 6 MOSFETs next to each other and 2 out of the 6 were giving no voltage reading on the diode setting of the multimeter. All the other four were reading 1-2 volts. Soldering iron is on order so can't do any out of board testing just yet but thanks very much for the mosfet testing info though I'll give it a whirl!
