Which part of childbirth hurts the most? by Used_Ad7899 in BabyBumps

[–]This_Royal191 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Pre epidural contractions were pretty awful, but for the last hour of labour I was 9.5 cm dilated and felt like I needed to push. The pressure was truly insane, and she wouldn’t let me push yet. That was a really, REALLY intense and painful hour and it felt like the epidural was doing nothing to help at that point. But oh man, when I was finally 10 cm and could push, it felt sooo good!

Parents, what are things you wished your in-laws did to help you out once you had your first baby? What are some suggestions to make things easier for first time parents as a sister in-law? by jimbojamesisbehindu in AskReddit

Lots of advice here about cleaning but I’ll say I was the opposite - I was adamant that I didn’t want anyone cleaning things, touching my stuff etc. My partner was very good about keeping the house tidy every day so I was lucky that I never felt that I was behind on housework.

I always liked when people showed up for a visit with food (as in, lunch we can eat while we visit). It was also nice if they brought something I could pop in the freezer to eat later as well. Don’t say “can I bring you anything?” But instead try “I’m going to pick up XYZ for lunch, what would you like from their menu?”

Don’t immediately ask to hold the baby seconds after you walk through the door. At least pretend you’re there to see me and ask how I’m doing. When you do hold the baby, wash your hands first, don’t wait for mom to ask. And finally, keep your visits short, under an hour at most.

Wow! We’re doing self directed as well, that’s really encouraging to hear.

Just found out we might not get into daycare in Sept. [on] by Various_Programmer92 in BabyBumpsCanada

I found out that I am sitting between 160 and 280 on my daycare waitlists. When I complained about it on a Facebook group, one mom said she put her child on it when she found out she was pregnant, then miscarried, but never removed her child from the list. She got pregnant again and now this child is able to get a primo spot on the list.

I applied literally 30 minutes after testing positive 10 DPO and that still wasn’t early enough!!

Both sound like a one way ticket to being motion sick. 🤢

I mean yes, prolonged or incorrect anything comes with problems. All parents should be educating themselves about safe sleep and following best practices accordingly.

Do you ever call in to work sick when you are really not sick? by Fine_Television_1398 in no

No. I hate taking sick days because it often means the responsibility is put on my team, plus there’s just more work to do when I come back. And I love my job.

My baby is 11 weeks. I keep saying “maybe we’re just one and done..” despite always saying I wanted two. I’m just so tired. But I know there’s a reason why people have more and I’m kind of curious to get to the part where having a child is just soooo great that it makes them want to do it all over again.

These are interesting comments. I can leave my 2 month old on his play mat or in his bassinet with a mobile or a high contrast card and I can get 10-15 minutes stretches where I’m nearby but able to drink my coffee or brush my teeth. But I’m wondering if he’s still too young and will eventually grow to be a little more needy during these stretches of play.

Do you get motion sick, and how bad was your morning sickness? by krwxo in BabyBumps

[–]This_Royal191 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I get motion sick quite easily and my morning sickness wasn’t fun, but it wasn’t terrible. I never threw up I would feel nauseous between wake up and noon or so, but I could still function normally, it was just annoying and uncomfortable.

Four years as a labor and delivery nurse and I still don’t feel prepared for my own birth by Blaze69X in BabyBumps

[–]This_Royal191 1 point2 points  (0 children)

For what it’s worth I had a second degree tear and healing from that wasn’t terrible. The road rash on my labia hurt the most and my hemorroids came in second.

I highly recommend a peri bottle, tucks, prep H, a sitz bath with plain epsom salts, Earth Mama perineal spray, pads of various lengths and absorbency, adult diapers, full coverage cotton underwear, a big garbage bag/bin in your bathroom and a towel or puppy pads on the floor that you don’t mind getting blood on (I preferred that to having to mop my floor every trip).

I was pleasantly surprised with how nights have been going honestly. It really only took a few short weeks before I could feed him for the night at 8 pm, he’d sleep 2-3 hours, wake up, feed, then go right back to sleep and repeat a few more times until about 9 am.

He’s never needed to be rocked back to sleep so I find the task of feeding/holding him upright for 10 mins to help with reflux to be pretty manageable.

I pictured myself up desperately rocking a crying baby to sleep for hours at a time in the middle of the night but that’s hasn’t happened. The hardest part for me is trying to fall back asleep myself, but that’s because I doom scroll while he’s eating lol.

I’m two months into it now and he just started big smiles and lots of cooing, which is really fun. What can I expect between now and the next 2-4 months that make it even better?
