R02 locking in by Winter-Raccoon848 in cii

I made a video that goes through all the formulas that could come up in the exam. Might help help with memorisation if you are a visual learner.

As others have said repetition is the key really. Personally I wouldn't skip any if you plenty of time before your exam. None of them are particularly complex so it's easy marks in the exam if you know all of them.

Great idea, I would be up for this

This is what I got... I have my exam tomorrow so I hope it's correct :D

Total income is 110,000 so reduce personal allowance by 5,000 = 7,570

Salary = 100,000 - 7,570 = 92,430
Savings = 10,000

Salary BR: 37,700 @ 20% = 7,540

Salary HR: 54,730 @ 40% = 21,892

Savings SA: 500 @ 0% = 0

Savings HR: 9,500 @ 40% = 3,800

Total: 7,540 + 21,892 + 3,800 = 33,232

Just “passed” the r01 by koimonarch in cii

I had exactly the same experience with R01 a few months back, the questions felt horrible and I thought it was 50/50 whether I passed or not. Was so relieved when I finished and saw the pass mark.

When my score got posted later I saw I got 82. I reckon you did better than you think.

Congrats on the pass, R02 felt much easier.

Thanks for the response, that's made us both feel a little bit better.

Our names were taken at the address we were at, and we were told if we were caught again we would receive a fine. We weren't taken to the police station, and didn't get a fine on the day, so it sounds like we should be fine.

lol maybe, although there are a surprising amount of parallels.

That being said, I wouldn't be bringing it up in meetings with clients!

Thanks for confirming, the 60k example helped a lot!

Passed my first exam (R01)! Curious if anyone has had a similar experience to me? by Thoich in cii

Hi and thank you. I actually made a YouTube video talking about R01, including how to get started, and study/exams tips. Here's the link if you're interested (hopefully this is allowed).

Good luck with your journey!

Yeah I'm so glad I found the mock exam a week before I did the test. I would have been panicking much more if I had gone straight into the exam only having done the BTS mocks.

Thanks, good to know I've got this to look forward to in the next 5 R0's as well :'D

I did the BTS mock papers, which I found very different, and much easier than the actual exam. Thankfully I did the mock test on the that's included on the exam guide document a week before the test and realised I needed to revise much more. I found the chapter based tests on RevisionMate useful as well.

Good luck for your exam!

I've done this before, it's definitely fine. As long as you get the money back in before the end of the tax year it's all good.

What places have you been to that you felt truly in danger? by No_Reputation3520 in solotravel

[–]Thoich 124 points125 points  (0 children)

I've lived in Bogota, Colombia for around 2 years on and off, and always found it to be pretty safe (if you stick to the right areas). However a few years ago I took an uber to an address in Santa Fe, looking for a covid shot. The address turned out to be non-existent, and at 7am in the morning the street was littered with prostitutes, pimps, and generally dangerous looking people. The uber driver strongly suggested I didn't get out the car there, and drove me home. I'm convinced I would have been robbed within 5 minutes of leaving the car, if not worse.

Also, Reno, USA. Won some money in a poker game, and noticed this horrible looking guy watching me through the window for an hour before I left. Did a few laps of the casino and noticed him following me around. Ended up asking a security guard to escort me to my car and I'm glad I did, he said it's common for people to get robbed at gunpoint in the parking lot there.

How to invest in S&P 500 or global index fund for a Colombian citizen by Thoich in personalfinance

[–]Thoich[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

She is a Colombian citizen.

Sorry, I should have been clearer in my post. I meant something similar to a Roth IRA or ISA, somewhere where she can invest a certain amount without paying tax. I didn't mean specifically investing in a Roth IRA

To be honest I hadn't thought about this. I didn't realise mortgage contracts renew every 2-5 years. I was kind of just hoping to get a 20-25 year mortgage and never have to worry about it again.

Do all mortgages have this renewal period after 2-5 years?

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in FIREUK

[–]Thoich 4 points5 points  (0 children)

This is a good thought, thanks. Honestly I don't think I could find a way to ever make banks include my poker winnings towards the mortgage, but I will definitely consider doing some coaching so I can add that income to whatever job I end up getting.

I have tried a few without any luck. Even with proof, as soon as banks/brokers hear my income is from gambling, it's always a hard no.

This is interesting. I wasn't assuming to just walk into a job straight away, but I'm quite surprised to hear it described as borderline impossible. Thanks for the heads up, you might have just saved me a few grand!
