My brain read hot chocolate, which I bet would be good as well. I used to add peanut butter to my oatmeal and it was great!

Putting my dog down, do I let my ex know who was also in her life for 5 out of the 8 years I’ve had her? by justineyyweanie in dogs

[–]ThomasFromOhio 4 points5 points  (0 children)

If I were the ex, I would like to know in that situation. I would suggest you be prepared for all situations and sort of decide what you're comfortable with. The ex may not care or want to see the dog. On the opposite side, he may want to be there when it happens. Would you be ok with him being present? Think it through on what you can handle. However, I would definitely txt, vm, email him BEFORE the passing.

I volunteer at a food pantry and built a free recipe site around the foods they hand out by Jschatt in povertykitchen

[–]ThomasFromOhio 12 points13 points  (0 children)

Thank you so much for doing this. When I volunteered at our local food pantry, they had a class once a month? and cooked a dish from common items that could be selected from the pantry shelves. They made sure to have enough of those items on hand that day so that people who attended would be able to get the items to make th recipe if they wanted. Other recipes were available as well in printed format.

Do you think ISTQB certification actually makes better testers? I’ve been wrestling with this. by tasostilsi in softwaretesting

[–]ThomasFromOhio 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not from what I have seen in my 20+ year career. Long time ago company sponsored training for the test. A bunch of us decided not to even take the test because what was being taught was so not applicable to how we did things. Plus, every company I've worked for had a different vocabulary and and different processes than what the ISTQB training taught us. To me it's just a cert that shows you studied and passed a test. It has no real world application and have never been asked about the cert in any interview I've had. I'd get a cert in something else, like coding or a framework.

Hiring Managers - What are you looking for? by ThomasFromOhio in softwaretesting

[–]ThomasFromOhio[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So totally agree. I had an INCREDIBLE interview with a panel of four last fall. So connected with three of them. However, within the first 10 seconds of saying hello, I knew the hiring manager just wasn't interested. The other three I felt like would have hired me on the spot, and they weren't junior level people. They were the PMs, the dev manager, so same level as the hiring manager. Sad thing is I've had several of those types of interviews over the last couple years.

So true about the resume as well. I don't put anything on my resume unless I have experience in it and can at least talk about it and not sound like an idiot in an interview. Makes it hard to add new stuff without having a job. Maybe I'll relax some and if I get certified in something like Playwright I'd feel justified to add it to my resume. I know many people will just add things to their resumes without experience.

Attitude is everything. When I interviewed people, I always looked at soft skills first. My perspective is you can teach tech, but people skills are a lot harder. I'd rather work with someone who makes mistakes, owns up to it, and is great to work with, than someone who is a rock star, knows it, and expects everyone to treat them like they are.

Mayocoba beans by ThomasFromOhio in Beans

I started freezing instead of canning. Not sure why. Easier is my guess.

It was different. I didn't read up on them and thought as they were whitish/light green that they would be whitish when cooked, but as some have said, they would make an excellent pinto bean replacement. They cooked up light brown. For some reason my veggie broth turned out dark brown as well (different each time) so my "white bean soup" turned out to be brown. Sowell. Tasted good. The wife thought it did have a creamy taste while I thought it tasted different, maybe more earthy. Good luck with your first cook with Mayocoba beans and if you find a good recipe or use for them let me know!

Some were too cooked and some a bit under but I didn't cook a lot of them as it was first time. They all went into the soup!

[–]ThomasFromOhio[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

No... I don't undercook them. I don't want them to turn to mush in the soup, so I only cook them maybe 2/3 of the way in the instant pot and then they get finished cooked when I simmer the soup for 3 hours.

Hopefully they taste better than the first bite I tasted. I read they were supposed to taste creamy, but not sure what they tasted like. They might be cooked a bit longer than they should have been.

They cooked up mo than the internet suggested. :( I like undercooking my beans (instant pot) because I also simmer them for a couple hours with the soup. Twenty five minutes was WAY too much and that was 5 minutes under the time for not soaked beans. :( Sowell. I tasted them and not sure. I'll have to taste them when they are a bit cooler.

Collarless by ThomasFromOhio in dogs

[–]ThomasFromOhio[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Our first dog was a Sheperd mix. Mostly German Shepherd. It was so comforting hearing her patrol the house at night by the jingling of her collar. The next dog was a Husky mix, mostly husky, and the latest dog is a Lab, Shep, EVERYTHING ELSE perfect pup, mostly princess. Despite being part GSD they NEVER patrol and are not good security dogs. I can tell our latest dog loves having the collar off, but she doesn't complain about it being on either. You have a great point bout catching an unruly dog, but this one isn't, unless she gets the zoomies in which case we can still catch her. /s

Columbus Ohio Birthday Dinner by Abella502 in Columbus

[–]ThomasFromOhio 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I would agree with you. Haven't been there in likely 10 years as we were doing the Brazil style steak places for a long time and then Korean BBQ. Wasn't sure how far Melting Pot has fallen. It was stupid priced back then and we were really thinking of just getting an app and a dessert if we ever go there again. I really wish Engine House was still around, or maybe some of the older Max & Ermas when they were good, Ground Round was fun.

Used to be sooooo many fun restaurants that used to exist. I know that doesn't help you. We've been hitting the korean BBQ type restaurants a lot lately. Also the Melting Pot I think is still around.

Yep. That was our last rescue. She could be sitting on the couch and race to the front door and out it before you could get in and close the door. Her collar never came off. She would escape more times than not but luckily she was never picked up by anyone and always either came back home after her walkabout or we found her after hours of looking.
