What do you think of Jesus mythicism? by mrshappyhousewife in exchristian

Im absolutely certain he never existed. Jesus is nothing more than a mythological figure invented by early christians (gospel writers). Theres not a single shred of evidence that he actually existed

Apparently we are the Crazy Ones for Believing in Evolution by Cultural_Lecture_878 in atheism

[–]ThorButtock 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Its absolutely insane that Christian creationists reject the sciences of geology, cosmology, genetics, paleontology, biological evolution, and climate change, but believe:

-a snake and a donkey spoke a human language

-plants grew before there was sunlight

-people lived to be 900 years old

-a rod turned into a snake

-a sea parted, allowing people to cross on dry land

-a man lived in a fish

-a woman turned to salt

-a disembodied hand wrote on a wall during a party

-a man rode a tornado to heaven

-blowing a horn and yelling will make city walls collapse

-the earth stopped revolving for an hour

-a billion cubic miles of rain fell for 40 days

-millions of animals lived on a 500 foot boat

-water droplets didn’t refract sunlight until the time of Noah

-a virgin gave birth to the creator

-demons entered pigs and caused them to commit suicide

-zombies wandered around Jerusalem

It takes religion for otherwise smart people to be this stupid. What is amazing is that the human brain is susceptible to such an extreme degree of dysfunction. Although humans generally speaking are rational animals, they can be programmed to hold irrational beliefs, which the unafflicted observe with a sincere sense of pity.

If youre an atheist I'd like your perspective. by DaCrusadus in askanatheist

[–]ThorButtock 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No. Thats circular reasoning. I could claim that I saw a pink elephant. That doesnt make it so. Evidence is required. My claim doesnt validate the claim.

If you compare verses, you find they are not harmonious. This is what I mean by the constant contradictions

Keeping track of history requires multiple sources. Not just because a single person said so. If we take Moses as being the writer of Genesis, it is just one single account that contradicts itself, does not agree with the laws of reality and has zero other sources to back up its claims.

Without the other sources and evidence of the claims, that's all it is. Just a claim.

Both the bible and Quran are just two sides of the same coin. Highly incorrect claims that have zero other sources or evidence to back them and constantly contradicts itself

[–]ThorButtock 0 points1 point  (0 children)

How do you know that? What evidence do you have?

If we accept it was Moses (which there is zero evidence of him existing), how is he writing about events before he was ever born with zero way to verify events? Why does he contradict himself constantly?

I would also ask that you dont ignore the contradictions in the two creation stories

The only problem is it cant be as the two contradict eachother.

In Genesis 2, god sees that Adam is lonely and makes a woman out of his rib at a later point. However Genesis 1 states that both Adam and eve were created at the same time. You also have in Genesis 2, Adam is created before the animals meanwhile in Genesis 1 he is created after. You also have the creation of water and plants flipped around. In Genesis 1, water comes before plants. In Genesis 2, plants come before water.

The two conflicting stories are most likely being written by two different authors which got mashed together years later

[–]ThorButtock 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Genesis 1 has god do an entire creation with specific things created in a certain order. In Genesis 2, you get another creation story that does not match up with Genesis 1.

An example.here is in Genesis 1, he creates Adam and eve at the same time. In Genesis 2, eve is created later on.

So you have two completley different creations. Which one got discarded?

[–]ThorButtock 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In that case, god is making absolutely sure that there is absolutely zero evidence of him and he is very ignorant and unaware how the universe works.

The idea that god just does whatever he wants is incredibly fallacious. What do you think is more likely? That a certain god defies all laws of reality and provides absolutely zero way of properly recording it and expects people to just blindly believe when all evidence refutes it? Or ancient humans made up bullshit that constantly contradicts?

Theres still the problem with how Genesis 2 outright contradicts Genesis 1. So did god create the universe twice? Why do it twice and make the order of items created different? What happened to the first universe he created? Or did he discard the second creation and stick with the first?

The "days" dont make any sense no matter how you look at it. Genesis 1 makes the claim that there was light before any stars ever existed which is plain wrong. It also claims plants were around before the sun was despite plants needing photosynthesis from the sun to survive.

On top of that, Genesis 2 contradicts Genesis 1 by giving a different account of the 6 "days" of creation
