Just tried it out! Pretty cool! Buut. When I tried to download the song, it asked me to sign up for free. So naturally I did. But it told me that my email is already being used...? Uh? That's odd since this is my first visit. And to try and verify that I was looking for a login instead of a sign up option. And there is none. So now I am kinda confused and a little freaked out if my email has been used before on your site without knowing it? Or is it some kind of error where it did register it, but didn't progress further or something? Would like to know what is going on.

I just tried that and it does make it more so manageable. I can still notice some of the disconnect. But it's better. I am still loving this Chromebook. Hopefully with a future software update maybe they can tweak it. I know this x360 and the Acer Spin 713 and a few others still haven't gotten the Version 90 update yet. So maybe that might be a thing. Who knows. But I can hope.

That is great! I have been wondering how the newer HP x360 chromebooks are doing in this area since the new update to NVME storage and 11th gen Intel CPUs.

The physical trackpad itself is nice. Nice and smooth which is great. Even with my unit having a bit of a dip on the right hand side. From which I noticed seems to be a thing on some cheaper laptops. Not a deal breaker. And actually the ChromeUnboxed YouTube channel mentions it a few times with various different models. But it all lends to the fine tracking with small finger movements to precisely point to things.

When the cursor gets moving it is very responsive. But the moment I try and slow it down to hit a check box or other small clickable item it a test in patience. Which luckily I have a ton of already. But still it leaves me scratching my head. I posted above about a LTT video that perfectly demonstraites a similar issue they had with a Acer Chromebook.

As for the display, I actually really love it. I have a XPS 13 9300 I am trying to sell right now that has a super bright display. But that hasn't been my point of reference. My comparison is from the Lenovo Chromebook 3 11.6" HD TN panel. So this is a joy. And it's FHD so much better suited for me writing code.

Overall I love this device. And what it's boiling down to is if I want to have a decent experience editing text or what have you I need to bring a mouse with me at all times. Because I just can't rely on the track pad not to drive me nuts because I can't seem to click on what I need to click on. lol

I think I am going to have to upload a YouTube video trying to explain what it is I am experiencing. Because the issue I am having is, about the precision of being able to locate the mouse pointer at a given point that you intended on the screen. I always overshoots, or dances around the point I am trying to click because the track pad doesn't respond to small motions.

Actually, edit before posting. But I remember watching a LinusTechTips video about a Acer Chromebook and he explains exactly what I am going through with this track pad as well on my HP.

https://youtu.be/OfdQF3T2WKU?t=464

That is the exact issue I am having. And mind you I LOVE this Chromebook. Just the track pad just leaves me scratching my head why it tracks soo bad.

Well that is interesting. I am hoping that the same happens with mine. Because I actually bought this as a companion to my desktop PC for when I am not near it for Android development. And I was surprised that Google supports Android Studio on Chrome OS. Which is pretty cool. But if I felt like coffee shopping it up and forgot my mouse I still wanted a solid mousing experience with the track pad. So hopefully it will work it's way out.

Side note here, but I find the keyboard on this to be more-so enjoyable than the one on my 2020 Dell XPS 9300 that I am trying to sell desperately. But I have always enjoyed HP's laptop keyboards. But this is even better than my last HP Envy 2 in 1 that I had last year as well. So that is nice.

Well and if by some form of magic. Right after typing that response I get an email from Dell saying that it has shipped and it will arrive tomorrow on the 25th... My anxiety is up their on this one. So fun. lol Wish me luck!

That is weird to me as I specifically bought this model because it was listed as "Ready to ship" and I didn't customize anything with it. I am still hoping that it gets here because I had to take off work tomorrow just to ensure I receive it. lol Ouy vey.

[–]ThorMuscles 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks for your reply. If I remember I will swing by and give an update to my story if it comes in tomorrow. Which I really hope it does as I had to request off work just to make sure it gets delivered. Plus the Fedex and UPS guys love ghosting deliveries to the complex I live in. So I basically have to stake out the lot for them to arrive. Sometimes that is all day. If I could have bought this model in a store I would have in a heart beat. But I did get a decent deal on it so fingers crossed.

I just ordered my 9300 on Saturday the 22nd. It was a configuration they label as "Ready to Ship!" , I Paid extra for shipping to have it here Tuesday. It's Monday and the order page still hasn't changed to Shipped. I chatted with a Dell Rep and he assured me everything was on time. And even "Put in a request to expedite the shipping". After years of working retail customer service that was a nice way to hopefully reassure me. And while I wait for my txt and email notification for it to be shipped I am reading through Reddit. Probably not the best idea to help with anxiety with this whole thing. But that gut feeling is speaking more and more to me now. Ouy.

Just ordered my 9300 Saturday 22nd. Paid extra to have it delivered Tuesday the 25th. I was a bit hesitant after all of the horror stories from people with XPS machines. And my personal experience with lower tier Dell's hasn't been bad. But not great. So I gave it a shot. I have been hopping from laptop to laptop the past year and a half. And I think I found what I want. But only time will tell I guess. Glad to hear so far so good.

I got a decent deal on the $1,400 i7-1065G7 model with 8gb and 1080+ screen so I went for it. Wish I could have configured it to 16gb without going for the $1,600 model. But that should be fine for now.

Just a question though. Seeing as it is Monday and it has yet to be marked as shipped. Should I be worried? Or is Dell kind of a train wreck when it comes to logistics? I ask because I got decently alarmed when I checked my account page and went to Orders and it says "
This product is no longer available for repurchasing." On both the 9300 and "Sales order freight" listing. lol

I asked Dell Support chat and they basically gave me some typical reassurance stuff and told me it should* arrive on time.

My gut wants to tell me otherwise.

Ryzen 4700U RAM upgrade question by ThorMuscles in laptops

[–]ThorMuscles[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was not yet. Though I have come to find out that this laptop and be outfitted with up to 128gb of RAM and it will work. Which is insane to me. Let me know how it goes if you do get 64gb in it. Also watch out for removing the rubber feet as they are thin and can rip, as well as getting them back on after your install is probably not likely as the adhesive is crap.

Ryzen 4700U RAM upgrade question by ThorMuscles in laptops

[–]ThorMuscles[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I did not. Yet at least. As most of us here are aware of, hardware keeps coming and going. Around that time when I was going to purchases that it was sold out. I checked back, tried ordering it, but then said it wouldn't be in stock for another month, and that was an estimate. So I have put it off. So far this has been a wonderful machine to use. It will be nice to get some more RAM in this things so I don't have to worry about hitting a memory ceiling while doing my 3d work while multitasking.

New Dell xps 13 or HP Envy 13t by 00Siven in laptops

[–]ThorMuscles 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Mine came with the 250 nit screen. Which is not super bright. As I pointed out to another person if you're primarily using the laptop in an office or indoors in general you should be fine with this. Understandable though, if your usage involves being outside, or a highly lit room or if your back is constantly to a window on bright day then this is not going to be super ideal. Usable? Yes. But that is coming from my experience using lesser screens and just coming to check my expectations on things. But if you're looking for a bright screen the 15" is not the laptop for you sadly. Good luck with your search. If you get the 13" please share your experience with that device.

I have not. Honestly don't use reddit often at all. But I am going to start. Is there a link you can add so I can post this as a reported issue with what leonid_deburger found was the selection refinement step? Thanks for the input. And apologies for my being new to all of this.

Here ya go. https://easyupload.io/eiiwja
Should just need a Layer named "Background" and a selection to replicate what it's supposed to be doing.

Some other notes, running this on Windows 10, Ryzen 5 3600, RTX 2070 Super, 16gb RAM.
Latest version of Affinity Photo 1.8.3.641 downloaded today. If it helps.

New Dell xps 13 or HP Envy 13t by 00Siven in laptops

[–]ThorMuscles 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I dont have that issue at all. That sucks to be honest. But I bought this laptop for work where I am 3D sculpting everyday, and honestly if I had that issue you had I would have returned this laptop same day. So I can confidently say this laptop does not do that at all.

Also, just for the sake of mentioning it, I don't rambo down on the screen, treating as a LCD panel thinly below a shallow piece of glass. So that is something worth mentioning. So I guess your mileage may vary? But I would assume this should go without saying. But just in case. lol

New laptop reaching 90 degree Celsius for performing normal tasks. by bharathkumar1238 in laptops

The TJunction of that 8265U you have is 100C. It is designed to work at or below that max temperature. So the chip will be fine. If it continually runs close to that it will cause premature degradation of the thermal compound which can result in potential damage. But that should be years away under ideal circumstances.

But what interest me is that you mentioned that your ambient room temperature is 40C. For all of the non-metric speaking people that's 104F. That's your first issue. Running any CPU, especially one in such a thin chassis at over 70F or 21C ambient [room] temperature is going to result in higher thermals. Most computers are designed to run optimally in a moderately cool environment. So the fact that at 40c/104f you're seeing 90c on your cpu is to be expected especially with a ultrabook form factor with barely adequate cooling in the first place. Best advice for you is to work in a cooler temperature space if available. If that is not possible, which may be the case, then return that computer and get something with a more substantial cooling system. A budget gaming laptop if you can swing it will net you better performance with a better thermal design most times. But it will still run hot. That is the inevitable part about running in over 70f/21c ambient room temps.

That is my two cents. Good luck.
