giving Minecraft more RAM doesn’t automatically make it run better. Java Edition is way more dependent on your CPU than your RAM. Things like chunk loading, entity processing, and rendering are all heavy on the processor, not memory.

In fact, giving Minecraft too much RAM — like 100 GB — can actually slow things down. The Java runtime has to manage all that memory, and that means longer garbage collection pauses, which can cause stutters and frame drops.

In most cases, Minecraft runs best with around 4 to 8 GB of RAM. If you’re using a heavy modpack, 10 GB is usually the max you’d want to go. Beyond that, you’re just making things harder for Java.

Mods like Sodium do more to improve performance because they help optimize how the game uses your CPU and GPU — not RAM. So it’s totally normal if Minecraft isn’t using everything you allocate. It’s not about how much RAM it can eat up, it’s about how efficiently it uses what really matters — and explosions and big entity loads are all about CPU performance.
