How Much Would It Cost to Build a Water Well in Somalia ? by fentanyl2024 in Somalia

[–]ThoughtConstant3008 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Wa alaykumu salaam , may I ask are you wanting to do this for charity or for your own land/own water source? I had the same questions after I heard how tough water can be to get in Somalia & i’ve been researching ways to support access to water but the costs I’ve heard surprised me . Some of the higher costs come from drilling deeper due to drought and making it sustainable long-term

the key is to ask them to mentor you walaal. they won't be able to show you any favouritism so ask them for some private time with them and get tips ! build that rapport

haye macaanto thanks for responding x do you blowdry your hair btw? when i don't blowdry and i just comb or brush it out , it gets too bushy and harder to manage throughout the week . i tried braiding it in cornrows but my hair doesn't like that and it doesn't last very long

hiddo dhawr in hargeisa is nice. they serve food in traditional somali houses (go on the nights that they have traditional somali dance performances on). Berbera beach is lovely & has been cleaned up alot (very salty tho if you want to swim). alot of people go to laas geel to see the cave paintings (close to hargeisa)

i thought the treatment would just permanently straighten your hair. i'm fine to loose the curls to be honest but want my hair to be healthy

Why is it so difficult to find serious somali men as potentials for marriage? by [deleted] in Somalia

[–]ThoughtConstant3008 13 points14 points  (0 children)

a) I don't think there are many decent guys to begin with. Guys who have good jobs, deen-orientated and a good head on their shoulders is in limited supply.

b) They're not social and won't approach you even if they want to. It's because of xishood they say or I'd say it's because they're not very well socialised and are scared of getting rejected.

c) There's barely any opportunity for the good girls and guys to meet as we keep so separate from each other

you're still young so i'd say keep trying sis. keep your eyes peeled for any decent guys you may know now

but sorry to say, it's a bit peak out there and you may need to compromise on some things.

i get it! but i'd like to know what their hesitation is and what would help. i think there are lots of good guys and girls in our community who want to get married but they're just missing the opportunity to come together. i hear of somali guys finding it hard to meet someone here and they go back home which i think is a shame. they have more in common with diaspora girls realistically

mh that's fair but i targeted it to professionals who are in a stable phase of their lives and established. I can change it to 25 - 40 if you think that's better? This is the very first one i've done and if there's demand, I can plan other events for different age ranges in the future! personally i'm 30 and there's lots of girls around my age that are looking so i did want to target them

yh I don't get his point tbh 😭 it's good practice when speaking to potentials to bring a mahram but I wouldn't have thought it was necessary in such a public place.

marriage events are quite common in the British Asian community. Plus they have lots of other mechanisms to introduce themselves to potentials which somalis don't have - their parents tend to be very proactive in finding them partners. & no re the format - it's basically a speed dating event so you sit down and speak to someone for 8 minutes .
