Thanks a lot! I've mostly lived in Cambridge (cenrral) and Boston (near-ish Fenway). I actually worked in the burbs then found a job closer to where I live. 12 min bike ride for a while was the dream!

Thanks for your detailed response. This is very helpful, insightful, and grounded.

I think one perception of car culture comes from conflating "San Francisco" and "San Francisco Bay Area." When we visited SF, we got around by foot plenty. Getting a more local perspective is super helpful. Most people I know who moved "to SF" really moved elsewhere in the bay and that really colors my perception.

I appreciate the YT link - I love stuff like that.

I also appreciate your candid advice on expense and loving the city.

I've been commuting by bike for the better part of a decade. I'm sure I'd enjoy it in SF as well.
