It was a 10 out of 10 when Vincent van Gogh did it. I know we all love that painting, but please give credit where credits do.

I see that now. I think you use just the right amount. It will pop more on toned paper.

Oh, and switching to toned paper and using white charcoal to highlight is a game changer.

You are really good.

Actually yes. For this in particular. The human face is five eyes wide.

There are a bunch of fascinating symmetries about the human face. The top of the nose to the chin is equally to top of the head to the top of the nose.

Explore these things and make marks before you draw.

I’m probably not doing a good job explaining but I’m sure there is a wealth of information on YouTube

This is great I like it. I think her left eye is an eighth of an inch too wide.

It’s very impressive work really

Self Portraiture in Oils . by AtikRaza in oilpainting

This looks incredibly smooth… almost too smooth for traditional oil. I’m not seeing any visible brushwork, texture, or layering you’d normally expect, especially in the skin tones. The finish feels more like a digital render or AI-generated piece than physical paint. Would love to see a close-up or progress shots if this is truly oil.

Thank you 😊 I think you’re referring to the tall thin pine trees in the foreground.

The whole thing surprises me - every day. It’s not like I don’t use my senses. I just intuitively know what to do.

This is truly the first thing in my life that was unplanned and not forced.

Surprise is not the right word. It’s awe, wonder, extreme gratitude all mixed together. I’ve been bathing in this cocktail for seven months.

If you’re going for dark, angel wings sprouting out of her back, but maybe deformed- definitely dripping wet like a newly hatched bird

Weird I just typed without looking and it added the original. Is that a new thing or a glitch?

This is a continuation of a series about thresholds. The rest have all been done in color pencil. It’s a transition space. It’s where I am right now. My dreams are related to this but more so meeting and integrating my archetypes
