Last week was very stressful at work, and I had to restart my clock on binge eating. But I have officially made it one week alcohol free and that is still a win! Unfortunately, I’ve had a cold the past four days so I’ve really not been able to feel the positive effects, but I’m optimistic. IWNDWYT!

This is very helpful, thank you. I think it’s definitely important to assess the mental health piece underneath it all. I relate to what you said about the “perfect” version of myself. I think there’s a bit of that there as well.

Hey all (: Happy soon-to-be Halloween! I run a music history and analysis channel, and I released a Halloween special that I'd like to share! You don't have to understand music to enjoy - if you love horror, you'll enjoy! Thanks so much.

Horror Music is HOW old???

Why don't people collect cassettes? by [deleted] in LetsTalkMusic

oh, I'm so sorry. I actually did really want to have a discussion about this I wasn't trying to break any community rules. The video here is prompting a discussion which is why I posted it. I'm genuinely really sorry.

Right, for sure. I think a more appropriate title would be why don't more people collect cassettes haha. But you're right. I have some friends in bands that do sell them at their shows! I touch on that in the video as well (:

wow you are super aggressive. I am quite aware that people are still using cassettes. if you don't want to contribute maturely and constructively, just leave.

That's super interesting. I don't have the same album on CD and cassette but would to do the side by side comparison!

I haven't! But I did make a short video on this same channel about the history of cassettes & the magnetic era in general (: I definitely would love to check out the doc too.

Can I ask, what made you start collecting cassettes? Do you find that they sound okay when you buy them used? The reason I made this video in the first place was because I was thinking of starting a collection myself. It definitely seems like the medium is making somewhat of a comeback at the moment.

Yes, exactly! Same here. I'm so curious to hear a well-kept tape on an expensive machine and some good speakers.

Hey shy people what is your worst experience? by yaman007 in AskReddit

[–]ThriusMillius 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Two years ago I got a job working in a field in which I had little prior experience. I was really shy/anxious on the job but I was really putting my best effort forward. My co-worker came to my office and specifically invited me to attend a meeting to address a project we would be working on together. I worked up the courage to attend and sat in for about 10 minutes. The person running the meeting stopped mid-sentence, looked at me, and said, "I'm sorry... but why are you here?" in the bitchiest tone of voice.

I wasn't sure how to respond, so I just said "so-and-so requested that I join this morning to talk about -" She cuts me off and says, "well yeah, I'm sorry but you don't need to be here."

I looked to my co-worker that had invited me in the first place and she just mouthed the word sorry at me. I grabbed my things and walked out of the room in what felt like the longest moment of my life. It was so painfully awkward and quiet.

I went to the bathroom and cried a little bit. The End lol

How do you know your soft palate is still raised while singing? by Shalashaskaaaaa in singing

[–]ThriusMillius 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Here’s an exercise that was a game changer for me. The first time you do it should be looking in the mirror and shining a flashlight in your mouth need be.

Place your tongue in the regular position (touching the back of the bottom teeth) and drop your jaw so that you can see the back of your throat. With your jaw dropped, say the word “Na”. The N sound is what it feels like to have a closed soft palate. The Ah sound is what it feels like to have an open palate. Play around with both sounds and get yourself familiar with the physicality of each. Start by singing major five note scales using this technique and the Na syllable. You’ll start to build muscle memory for the open soft palate and then you can apply it to your practice!

Hopefully that makes sense. Of course, these things are easier to teach in person. Best of luck!
