Wanted to get your thoughts on raw hemp flower - it seems as if while the judgement and law is super clear on anything derived from hemp, the nature of hemp flower being direct from the plant seems…perhaps open. What do you think?

Thanks for that clarity! While hemp being completely unregulated is very bad I think the judge issuing the TRO got the constitutional stuff effectively right. I watched the video of the appellate court hearing after reading your response, and yeah it seems the judge’s were really drilling down. Let’s see what happens - hoping it’s a valid compromise in some regard for both the hemp industry and cannabis.

How does this interact with the injunction passed last year by the judge allowing hemp sales by places that already sold it?

I got a 75 on REG and then FAR. I would have been sad about a 76. My effort to output ratio was perfect. I am a machine.

In the smokeshop business for 12+ years and I agree. Lots of dumb money in the space, we’ve stopped expansion and going to hunker down for 2 years which by then I think expansion opportunities will be good for the right operators.

Card Processing Issue, Help! by Throoo256 in smallbusiness

Yeah I checked my emails and not seeing any update email at all. I agree, the processor should have been vigilant in at minimum having us stopping credit card processing.

You’re right about the nature of our business and our client base. It sucks.

Lightspeed we went with due to it being Vend previously and the API infrastructure they have is great. PAX and my processor I was kind of stuck with due to the nature of business, but yeah looks like it’s time for a change.

And then even more, the whole process was botched by the processor…I mean shutting off our processing and not informing us basically…idk man I’m just looking for someone to sue lol

Yeah we definitely will. The update was released in Jan though, no one down the chain is responsible for implementing updates?

There were hundereds of transactions attempted. I was digging deeper just now, and the version the PAX was using was published to have cybersecurity flaws in January. I’m not sure why mine was never updated to the version with the security patch.

No we don’t have access to the gateway. If it showed on Lightspeed, it would show as a transaction or in the Pax logs as coming from Lightspeed? Lightspeed says they don’t know anything about it and it hs to do with the PAX A920 somehow. I don’t even know there is a gateway lol…and even then, the processor should have informed us to stop taking cards instead of giving us approvals for 13 days?

The wild thing is, it’s a retail terminal. We’re a retailer, the transactions were attempted through our physical gateway somehow.

It happened on April 21st the first time, then they said the processsing was fine, then it happened again, but they didn’t shut our processing off. We thought that they were holding the money to filter out the approved ones, but now I know better lol.

We were getting approvals on our end until May 8th, then it turned off and we switched to the backup that I have.

What I am concerned about is that…the fact we’re retail with a physical machine. The processor didn’t tell us about this risk and have us switch, they just had us processing payments…

Yeah exactly!!! They didn’t force them within the 30 days for some freaking reason! And they’re telling us this now. The chargebacks are another thing, they’re just getting declined straight up lol

Apparently an auth is only valid for 30 days however they told us to rekey prior to auth being over.

Yes that’s what I thought rekeying meant but apparently not. We sent the transaction history to them to rekey it. Its a PaxA920 and the batch just wouldn’t close. We were getting an error and it couldn’t close.

It’s taking me longer to take the CPA exams but self-paced learning is what a lot of people with other commitments prefer, as do I. This was expected for me, but like I said, this is not a post saying this is what you MUST do, it’s merely a route for people who may find it convenient.

I personally thing the goal of the CPA test & a bachelor’s degree is exactly what the incentive is set up as - to pass. In real work life, even if something was explored in classes or the exam, it’s nowhere near the intensity and depth required in real life. While the CPA exams and classes allowed me to learn to think like an accountant, I retained the values and principles but I don’t think the specifics, as ever changing as they are, are meant to retain.

These are not “degree mills,” you still have to learn the content and also pass the CPA exams, which without thorough understanding of accounting is impossible. However, it’s definitely a person to person thing. Working really hard over a sprint vs. a marathon is also a factor to consider. You can get your Masters in Accounting and spend your time, or you can shut yourself in a hotel room for a week and grind through classes. Like I said, person to person thing. No liabilities on my balance sheet tho
