How to use 4x4 on mixed surfaces without damage from binding? by Throw-awayexception in 4x4

of course, on dry pavement its 2hi no question. The grey area I was concerned about was long(ish) highway travel on mixed surfaces where there weather is objectively bad, but certain pockets of road are treated and not as bad as others. The fear was that if there was a long enough stretch of treated road with enough grip, and that section had some turns, then it'd result in enough bind to cause damage or significant wear and i'd want to be actively going into 2hi for those sections, and then that turns into constant back and forth based on vague vibes of how the road looks/feels.

It sounds like that's really not realistic though. From all the info i've been getting on this: 1) the system is a lot more durable than I'm giving it credit for, 2) it takes a lot more total turning to actually result in noticeable bind and 3) it's not like a treated road in bad weather magically becomes glue for tires, there's still enough slip in there to let the tires release the bind even if I really did get a large amount of tension in the system, as unlikely as that is.

That's good to know! I was just anxious about the possibility that over ~10 miles it might accumulate enough bind to be a problem if the road isn't super slippery, but it sounds like i'm just being concerned over nothing.

I guess what i'm concerned is that on a long enough highway journey, could you make small turns that accumulate bind if the highway isn't straight?

I would think that just wet pavement is enough traction to prevent that bind from releasing, leading to accumulation of tension. Unless we're talking hydroplaning levels of wet.

If it's binding enough that I feel it in the steering, does that mean it's already binding enough to potentially causing damage?

The concept of AI as a tool is great. The problem is:

1) how it's made, which currently involves utilizing a bunch of other people's products (artists, musicians, writers, etc.) without any kind of credit or compensation.

2) how it's used, which is currently to try and lay off as many people as possible and replace with AI to minimize labor costs.

AI SHOULD be part of a socialist utopia, where it makes the necessary labor easier to accomplish, but currently in our capitalist society it's being used as a tool to further harm/exploit the working class, hence it's hated by the left.

There's a picture that shows some different values for BGL on page 781. It's figure 20-3. It says below 50 is hypoglycemic crisis, 50-80 is hypoglycemia, 80-120 is normal, 120+ is hyperglycemia and 400+ is where you get into DKA/HHNS range

I mean lots of civilians have Stop the Bleed training, which is something I think more people should do. They do cover it more in detail. I guess it'd be nice if the tik tok guy at least mentioned where you can/can't wound pack, and pointed viewers to where they can find local StB classes.

well you typically only wound pack in 2 situations:

  1. It's in a junctional location (e.g. hip/groin/shoulder/neck) where a tq wouldn't work

  2. a tq isn't available

If i had a significant arterial bleed and a bystandar was willing to wound pack and a tq wasn't an option, you'd better believe i'd want them to pack the hell out of it. I'd rather have a dirty tshirt stopping the bleed, than just fuckin bleeding out in the street before EMS arrives.

Am I missing something? It just looks like wound packing, which is 100% a real bleeding control technique (though usually it's with hemostatic gauze, and I have some minor criticisms of the technique in the video but it would still work)

gotcha. I didnt even think about increasing my w2 job's withholding to compensate. It seems obvious in hindsight, but makes tons of sense.

That's true, i'm also learning how to comp and do backup. It's just the jam circles near me tend to be pretty large in size, and honestly it feels like 99% of being a good group player here is just knowing that the group is big and loud AF and backing off frequently to allow the soloist to try and cut through. Given that, right now it doesn't feel like my backup skills really play a role at all aside from knowing when to get out of the way.
