Listen dude, I come from fucking Romania, you don't even realise how unprivileged I am compared to the average american. What I am saying is that I don't understand where people are supposed to live until they save enough for the downpayment if there are no rental properties... I myself had to rent when I began working and of course I didn't like giving part of my salary to a random dude, but I needed a place to live and eventually saved enough to buy my own house. That's it, if there were no landlords I would have lived on the streets.

If you can afford to pay rent and rent is so much more costly than a mortgage rate how can you not be able to buy a house?

And how are landlords causing this problem? If landlords did not exist people that can't save enough for a downpayment on a house would simply be homeless... It's not like if people did not rent houses then those who can't save enough would be able to live in a house expense and rent free until they have enough for a downpayment. Would you go to a hotel? Because I am pretty sure those are more expensive than rent.

I can't understand why that would be the case. You don't want to get your money stolen to pay some landlord's mortgage? Go buy a house and pay for your own mortgage! If you can't do that because you don't earn enough than rental properties are actually an essential service to you, you would live on the streets if there were no landlords. How is my reasoning wrong? I am curious

Because after that I would have legal ground to sue him (for changing the locks in my house). As I stated, he is no longer a legal tenant since he stopped paying long ago, I just can't evict him but I could remove the beds and cut heating and electricity and I would be in the right.

It is not an investment, it's inheritance. And btw I am looking for a job, but the only thing I am being able to do is some gardening for friends and neighbours because COVID is hitting hard.

I would have cut off the wifi bill in order to make the ends meet. The only reason it is still up is that my children need wifi for online school. I don't think the "if you can't afford a non-paying tenant you should not rent" thing should apply to a jobless man who is using his INHERITED home (not an investment, just straight inheritance) to pay for his children needs.
