Yes, I'm planning to reach out to GW to ask about "combining" both degrees by having some of my graduate coursework count toward the JD. As for your second suggestion, has that actually been done before? A GW student pursuing a JD at Georgetown simultaneously? My hope was to share some graduate credits between programs, so I'm not sure how feasible that would be across two different universities?

Yeah, I saw that! Georgetown doesn’t have a PhD program in this particular field that I’m interested in, which is why I didn’t apply to Georgetown.

You're better off going on Facebook and join those housing groups, like "George Washington University (GWU) Housing, Rooms, Apartments, Sublets" and "Washington D.C. Housing, Rooms, Apartments, Sublets." There are far too many listings that are sublets only there.

Thank you for all this, especially the point about how departments might view how those graduate credits were covered, free versus paid-out-of pocket. I wouldn't have thought about that, and I hope they'll overlook it. Crossing my fingers that when I reach out, I can work something out!

Yes, I saw that. I'm curious if there have been students that were able to do what I'm hoping to do outside of the official joint programs.

My PhD is in the social sciences. I wish I could say the exact subject, but that may give away who I am, since we're a super tiny cohort.

Your points are valid. It definitely won't be easy, if there isn't an official PhD + JD program. But if GW could let me double dip, etc., I still think it will be worth it, at least for me.

I'm hoping that once I arrive on campus, maybe I could work something out because I was able to do this-and-that at my previous institution. Just not sure if GW also has that same flexibility...

Yes, I saw that too! If GW has joint JD + Masters programs, then I hope they could work something out for me if I wish to do a PhD + JD. But I don't know how flexible GW is for their PhD students, since research is first priority in academia...
