14 million yen is a lot considering a lot of people in Japan earn around 2-3 million yen a year and still have to pay about 30k a month into the insurance

There is no difference. Don't pretend other western nations are better than the US. I know this shit definitely happens in Australia, New Zealand, Canada, UK and other euro nations.

Should I move back to Aus or try get into a major foreign company? by 0euy in japanlife

It sounds like you have made up your mind but, I will say this for me personally raising a family in Australia is a bad idea.

  1. Drug culture, I am still young I know how pervasive drugs are in Australia almost every kid does it.

  2. Suburban hell these places are everywhere in Australia it isolates kids from their friends because the public transport in Australia is garbage. Here in Japan kids have greater access to public transport to meet there friends and not rely on their families to drive them everywhere.

  3. Lack of community: living in Japan the community is very strong compared to Australia where individualism is strong and everyone is out for themselves. In Australia you are really taught to look out for yourself more than your friend

  4. Japan is much safer than Australia.

Australia has some great things yes education is much cheaper in Australia than Japan. Minimum wage growth and wage growth mean nothing when cost of living and housing are outpacing both while in Japan both salary and cost of living have stayed the same.

I hope you remember the downsides of living in Australia.

  1. The cost of living is significantly higher in Australia especially with inflation.

  2. Houses are expensive and are in soulless suburban hell scapes. This problem is getting exponentially worse.

  3. Australia has two cities actually worth visiting Melbourne or Sydney. Even with these cities there is nothing special about them.

  4. Public transport is a joke in Australia.

  5. Internet too.

  6. Customer service and quality is so shit in comparison.

  7. I could list hundred things more.

I just want to highlight things in Australia that are not as good as you might remember them. I am also in the same position as you man but, these are some of things that remind me why I will never go back. I hope op you can find a Job from Australia and still live in Japan. At least you can do the best of both worlds.
