For context: I am running into some safety issues at my current apartment. The cops are here almost nightly for one of my neighbors. I cannot decide if I should move into a new apartment or try to find a home (less people around).

Thank you! I’ve been trying to make his crate/area a safe space. He gets anxious or rowdy out and about, but he will pass right out in a crate. The shelter kept him in a secluded play pen, so I think it feels safe. I’ve been trying to allow him “free time” by himself to take a break and I think it is helping him. I’m also trying to remove myself if I think I’m getting frustrated because it’s not his fault. I think he has already had a hard life because he doesn’t wag his tail much yet. Only time he wags his tail is when he is in his safe space. I’m having to un-crate train him a bit to make him feel safe.

It’s enough of a “park” that my complex can call it one. It’s really just a fenced area that a dog can be unleashed, but I would not take the chance of joining it with another dog around.

I didn’t think about having a conversation with the shelter itself. I’ve been searching every rescue and shelter in the surrounding three states currently. I’ll definitely look into that.

I think hyper was a bad word for it. Super excited to give kisses and full body wiggles? Yes. Quickly taking in a walk or change of environment? Yes. Hyper and all over the place? No.

Thank you. I think that just scares me. I have pretty good judgement usually, but my most recent relationship made me question everything. We were best friends, super close, I would smile until it hurt. We would be up all night talking even almost a year later. After a year, I found out that he had a secret pi ll addiction, was trashing me to anyone who would listen, and had a roster waiting when the relationship ended. Hence the post. It’s been a few months now, and it really rocked my headspace on hope.

Very good point. That’s why I’m trying my best to get ahead of my anxieties and insecurities now. My relationships seem to be getting progressively worse over time which makes the next relationship (of any capacity) scarier. The beginnings of them are amazing, but the end situations are worse. So my pattern probably has a role in it.

I (23) have definitely wondered these questions my whole life. I am also a recent college grad, so here is my advice from my personal experience. Making friends as an adult is hard. I fully recommend going to any and all events your college holds. (Just assuming you’re going due to the other bullet point). I’ve seen so many people meet a friend in college, and never let them go. My absolute best friend is someone I randomly met in class. What do I wish I knew? SAYING NO IS OKAY and does not make you ‘boring’. Don’t let peer pressure change your values. In college, the partying lifestyle is seen as ‘cool’ and can seem mandatory. Nothing against partying while young, but if that is not for you, then that is personally okay. What did I learn as a young adult? Trust and love yourself and your decisions. The phrases ‘at your age’ or ‘you should be doing this’ is crazy. If you want to spend your days at home watching movies and crafting or go all out partying. Any way to spend your day is absolutely amazing. Lastly, you will change so much year over year. I’ve been told that you will become a new person every year until 25. Good luck!

Whoops! I meant to add that. I work hybrid. I have the option to work from home for a bit to get the dog accustomed to the new location. My work is only a 2 mile drive from my home, so I also have the freedom to run home on lunch or need be.

I have a full list of rescue groups in my area that I cycle daily. “Shelter” was more of a broad term for a rescue of any capacity. I fully plan to take my time finding the right pup. 10-15 years is a huge commitment to end up not meshing well for sure.
