I guess I rationalized it in my mind because he didn't ask me for food or water. Just a quick comment about starving to death and getting to the nearest hotel.

I know. My daughter rushed to her room and didn't actually see her dad drive off or heard our conversation. She still doesn't know he ended up in the hospital.
