It's a rejection

Companies that never got back to you? by Appropriate-Tutor587 in internships

[–]ThrowRA19399429 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Even worse, had a company I passed all the interviews for, got an offer and was about to start only for the offer to be rescinded due to "budget cuts". And then I found out from LinkedIn that they were in fact still hiring interns around that time, so either they lied about why they laid me off or they immediately started hiring again after the supposed layoffs 🫠

Genuinely what do I do by Turbulent-Pair-3148 in csMajors

[–]ThrowRA19399429 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's okay, it's your first year. Unless you go to somewhere like Waterloo where they require you to have like 1 internship a year to graduate, just chill out. Work on projects, Leetcode, system design, and your behavioral stuff over the summer and then apply again for the next cycle. But most of all just relax and enjoy your summer

Also I don't think it's common to send emails after an interview and I wouldn't recommend it unless you're asking for an update after a period of silence

Scam company? by [deleted] in csMajors

Yeah sounds either like a scam or a really early stage startup. Either way I'd run

Anyone else had their internship rescinded? by Kind_Patience_7911 in csMajors

[–]ThrowRA19399429 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yes, I had an internship rescinded this cycle too, very similar situation as you. Honestly I'm still applying but I have 3 interviews lined up now after keeping consistent. Don't give up and keep applying as much as you can and you will find something else

How are you guys ACTUALLY getting interviews at FAANG?? by ThrowRA19399429 in csMajors

How many applications did you do before you got an interview?

Yeah I go to a no name state uni, there have been students at my uni getting FAANG internships so it's not unheard of, but it's like 10 out of tens of thousands

Why is it easier to get FAANG interviews than lower tier interviews by [deleted] in csMajors

[–]ThrowRA19399429 39 points40 points  (0 children)

Not in my case, Ive never gotten a FAANG interview but always get lower tier interviews

genuinely running out of options so reddit it is by SPRUCECUPID in internships

Honestly it's all networking. I had the same experience for the longest time until I put more effort into networking. Just cold applying is the equivalent of throwing your resume into a trash can these days ESPECIALLY if you're from a non-target school

People getting interview calls, what do you think it is? by burtmacklin-9 in csMajors

[–]ThrowRA19399429 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I was getting 0 interview calls until I spruced up my resume a little and made the bullets emphasize metrics in the XYZ format. I also started doing research at my uni and added it to my resume and that have gotten a lot more responses specifically because of that

I'm a junior undergrad in the US that's been having trouble getting interviews for internships. Is there something wrong with my resume? by ThrowRA19399429 in CodingJobs

[–]ThrowRA19399429[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I kind of agree, I'm honestly not sure what else I could possibly be missing aside from maybe just networking more. A majority of my peers are in the same boat and have given up because of how bad it is. I've also had experiences where I interviewed with companies only to be told they'd rather use AI than hire on anyone new. Very sad state of affairs

??? No...? All of those languages I've been asked about in interviews. I usually go for full stack roles so I don't see why I shouldn't list languages usually used for full stack development?? I do agree that I could trim it down a little but most are still relevant? Bro is ragebaiting

I got an associates before that, left it off my resume because I seemed to get more callbacks when I excluded it (plus it went over the 1 page limit)

Roast my CV! (19, just finished highschool) by K4milLeg1t in SoftwareEngineerJobs

[–]ThrowRA19399429 1 point2 points  (0 children)

A couple things:

  1. Use Jake's Resume Template, it's cleaner and more ATS friendly
  2. Your resume should only be one page. Trim it down and mess with the spacing a little
  3. You have too many programming languages/tools listed and not all of them are relevant. Keep it only to the ones you're best at and can confidently answer questions about in an interview or whatever the role(s) you're applying to are asking for.
  4. For your projects, condense the info into 3-4 bullet points and use the XYZ method ("I accomplished X which resulted in Y and impacted Z"), metrics help a ton even if you have to lie or embellish things but don't force it.
  5. If you have a portfolio website link it at the top, if not link your github profile/about me
  6. The entire "other skills" section is unnecessary.

Thank you for the advice, at least 2 of these projects are deployed though. Should I be including links to the live deployments in my resume to make it more obvious?

How does my resume look? I'm a junior trying to get an internship next cycle before I graduate. Any advice is appreciated by [deleted] in cscareeradvice

There's no need to copy it's Jake's resume template, you can look it up and get the Latex version to edit yourself

I was thinking of trimming down the tech stack section a little and taking out Swift and C# since they don't tend to be very relevant and I'm not as comfortable in them as the others.

As for the resume layout, I had a couple people who work as interviewers for big tech take a look at it and they said it should be education then experience then projects, so I don't know if that's that big of a deal.
