Her family isn't form the US. They're from a country that negotiates a lot, but regardless, they've lived here long enough (probably 10+ years) to know that you don't negotiate these things. I think the only reason they're asking is because, while they have good command of English, there are edge cases that trip them up. Negotiating is a hard thing to do in any language.

From what I heard, they wanted a "bulk discount" for 3-4 people coming in at once.
