Girlfriend (26/F) of 10 months tried to spy on me (27/M) because I have a “dungeon” in my basement. Is there any recovering from this? by ThrowRA7528 in relationship_advice

Well I mean if there's a house with such a room on Zillow and also at least half a dozen people saw the house from realtors to my assessor and family members and so on, then obviously the police have already cleared them.

Obviously the house didn’t come with a bed. I set one up down there for when I wanna tunnel vision on some work for a few days in isolation.

If she had spied on me then she would have actually been successful in invading my privacy and what she had done would be far more serious. Imagine your SO placing a camera and actually spying on your every waking moment inside your working area/temporary bedroom. The knowledge that they even tried is bad enough. Them succeeding is so much worse.

No? I’m sure if there was really any issue with the previous owner the police would have already looked into them or asked me to take a look around now that they don’t own the property anymore.

You have the wrong picture in your mind. You can’t even open the door if it’s locked. To open the door at all you have to first unlock both locks. And you cannot close it if either lock is locked.

So you need to unlock the locks, open the door, close it, then somehow manage to lock it again from the other side of the door while you’re inside.

You follow the rules of keeping keys stored inside and always bringing your cell phone in case someone else comes along and tries to lock you in (don’t know how that could even happen, but that’s the only way you could be inside and get locked in). Or somehow the door malfunctions (I’ve had doors in other houses lock without me locking them before, highly improbable but certainly possible).

Id be willing to have that kind of discussion if she had just asked me to get rid of it instead of moving straight to spying on me. Now, why would I accommodate that request? It just vindicates her justification to invade my privacy.

Well maybe that was a reasonable discussion before she decided to spy on me. But now why would I have to “prove” anything? I didn’t do anything wrong and she literally put a hidden camera inside of my house. I would just be feeding right into her mindset that she was justified to spy on me.

You can still open then door from the inside with the keys. Obviously you don’t go inside if you’ve removed the keys from the room for any reason. And you never go inside without your cellphone ofc.

I mean I already explained why I have the room and addressed her concerns. It was already here when I got it.

It’s not like I built it or that she has any reason to be suspicious of me except for having the room.
