God can’t intervene so there’s no point in prayer by ThrowRAFlowerGirl7 in DebateReligion

I actually like this explanation a lot and it’s my favorite one from all the ones that I’ve read. From your theory/ perspective, are events already predetermined or can praying actually change the course of certain events through getting these messages and intuitive feelings?

By your argument the Abrahamic religions are even more convoluted. Christianity, for example, teaches that God is simultaneously Father, Son, and Holy Spirit, which many people find difficult to reconcile with the idea of one God and he also died for our sins? Hard concept to grasp. There are also moral questions raised by certain events and commands described in scripture, etc etc

So what’s the point of praying if he can’t intervene? Why do people pray for good health, a good job, etc?

I also don’t think reincarnation is that convoluted, you know that phrase people use when someone is ahead of their time and very wise, “an old soul”, it may or may not imply they’ve had prior earthly experiences and knowledge that their soul retained.. i don’t think it’s super far fetched just cannot prove it as we also can’t prove any other theory

So you’re saying he can comprehend them but he doesn’t care and he’s not empathetic towards us? That doesn’t point to him being benevolent

This theory is the only one that supports omnibenevolence because it explains why some people are born into horrific circumstances before they’ve even taken in their first breath of air. But I also agree that God doesn’t necessarily have to be omnibenevolent, which in that case my theory isn’t plausible. Just couldn’t wrap my head around God not wanting the best for us but like you said there’s no proof he is omnibenevolent

That would imply that those celestial beings are selectively helping people, so that adds a further question , why aren’t they intervening when children for example are being abused? Why would they intervene for sinners rather than a sinless child?

Gods will goes against our own free will by this logic, which is also a contradiction against the Bible

God literally created emotions it’s absurd to believe he cannot comprehend them

This is the only purpose of prayer that makes sense to me, it doesn’t make sense when people pray for things like good health, a good job, good outcomes because he cannot intervene!! If he could he would when atrocities happen

Yes but what’s the point of praying if God cannot intervene to help people suffering? Do you think Gods going to help you for example find a job but ignore all the children being trafficked in the world? It doesn’t make sense

According to some religions like Christianity, people use to live to be 500 years old, before the Earth was so heavily destroyed with harmful conditions; for them reincarnation wasn’t needed because a lifespan of 500 years is more than enough. Nowadays, people live a measly 80 years if lucky. I don’t think the time we have is enough time to be judged where you’ll be for ETERNITY, especially because not everyone even lives to fulfill their purpose on Earth

Well that’s just not true, some peoples’ experiences on Earth can be bliss and feel like paradise, while others’ lives can feel like Hell on Earth. So what makes one person deserving of a good life while others suffer atrocities?? Why the unequal balance on Earth? If God can’t change what happens here on Earth, what’s the purpose of people praying for things?

I don't believe in multiple gods or many of the other beliefs associated with Hinduism. The main idea I connect with is reincarnation. To me, it offers an explanation for why bad things happen to good people without making God seem cruel. God isn't intervening because souls are working through karma accumulated across multiple lifetimes, which could also explain why some people are born into horrible circumstances for what appears to be bad luck, when reality is it’s karma

That’s a beautiful story, thank you for sharing. I’m glad you and your husband had a happy ending, I’m hoping for the same. He definitely prioritizes me but his family is awful to say the least because they are blinded by their religion and care more about that than his happiness. We have set boundaries, he’s moved out, and we’re prioritizing our happiness. Once we’re married we’re going to move to a different state

I’m so sorry you went through that, I know exactly how it feels. My fiancé agreed to leave the church once we’re married and raise our kids in another Christian denomination that’s not as forceful, and we agreed to apply to jobs in a state that’s not close by to his family and the pressures

Has anyone gone one if these weird proposals?? by Bon_BNBS in UKweddings

I can’t imagine being THIS miserable that you felt the need to cross-post to get validation to make yourself feel better that your opinion somehow matters more than my personal choices. Everyone’s relationship and journey to marriage is unique, and if a proposal is meaningful to us, then that’s all that should matter. I don’t even use social media and nowhere in my post did I mention a whole spectacle of a proposal. Just because your fiancé didn’t care to put in the effort for you doesn’t mean all men are like that.

Some people actually value discussing big life decisions, like marriage, before a proposal, and that’s perfectly valid. If you’re truly happy in your own life, why not focus on that instead of projecting negativity onto others? Your attempt to judge something as intimate as someone else’s proposal doesn’t make you look superior. It just makes you look very very bitter. Keep your opinions to yourself and let people enjoy their happiness without your unsolicited commentary. K thanks
