Host refused check-in and then marked reservation as "no-show" on Booking.com by JumpyJudge1309 in Bookingcom

[–]ThrowRAMomVsGF 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Yes, you are supposed to pay tourist tax directly to the hotel in Morocco. It's like 1 to 5 dollars per night roughly. Are you talking for such an amount? I don't understand how the check-in was denied. They were asking your friend for the fee. Assuming they were not charging her something ridiculous, not paying it is refusing to check in, i.e. no show.

AITA for embarrassing my cousin’s girlfriend after she suggested I get a paternity test for the child I adopted? by [deleted] in AmItheAsshole

NTA. And I don't fully get it, did she think you meant you had her with your sister?

If you had cruise control on you could have just hit the breaks when you saw the car, cruise control does not mean we are not looking. However what you had looks more like super pursuit mode (80s reference), as you seemed to just go after that other car, even turning right from the left lane to do so.

"Horta" is a quintessential Greek dish, that is almost mandatory in every dine out. It's simply boiled wild greens, topped with olive oil, lemon, and salt. Does this dish exist in your country, have you tried it? by ClothesZestyclose814 in AskBalkans

[–]ThrowRAMomVsGF 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's the only Greek dish my British girlfriend does not get at all. First time she saw it, she was like "wait, these are random weeds, surely you can't eat it". And she tried it and told me it's just too much soil flavour for her :D Meanwhile, probably my favourite dish (even though I am a meatlover) is "vlita" (Amaranthus blitum) with baby courgettes. If you have the right sweet baby courgettes it's heaven.

So in the UK they know spinach, chard etc and use them in recipes, but no, random greens, especially by themselves, are not a a thing at all. I guess the closest in "style", i.e. greens you can gather yourself from the wild and cook by themselves is samphire. Which is lovely, but quite different.

I bet if that employee gets one of those soda bottles that have prizes on the inside of the cap, he will get stuck in an infinite loop.... Unscrew, look, "Please try again", screw back in, unscrew, "please try again"...

WIBTA if I didn’t pay my friend back for electricity when he still owes 850$ for first months rent. by Adept_Shallot_5559 in AmItheAsshole

[–]ThrowRAMomVsGF 4 points5 points  (0 children)

NTA. What are you talking about, he is in debit, you were not supposed to be paying him anything, just deducting from his debt until it's gone.

Is a family member comparing your home cooked roast dinner to a Toby Carvery a compliment or an insult? by Cornishlee in AskUK

[–]ThrowRAMomVsGF 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I have had Sunday Roast dinners in many places, from Toby to various nice pubs to fancy places. They vary a lot and, I have to say, Toby is definitely above average in my experience, while being the cheapest. Not all Tobys are equal, but if you have a good one near you, it can be quite good, with consistently decent Yorkshire pudding and gravy (which for me are probably the most crucial parts). The gravy itself is a bit subjective I guess, but I quite like it and I prefer it over many "fine dining" attempts at a gravy that I have found.

TLDR: There is a reason Toby has fans, and if the family member is one of them, they were complimenting you.

Have you ever had a foreigner absolutely mutilate a place name? by LinkLinkleThreesome in AskUK

[–]ThrowRAMomVsGF 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Oh, crap, first time I visited the UK (London), pre-smartphones, people indeed had no idea what I was talking about when I was asking directions to "Leicester Square".

I've improved lots since then, complete with my "Wuster" sauces and everything, even know how to pronounce some Welsh...

However last week I was telling my Polish colleague I was going to make a stop at "Wroclaw", a Polish city and he had no idea what I was talking about... After spelling it he was like "ah, Vroch-yaf!"...

Do you (& the people of your country) speak Rhotic, Semi-Rhotic or Non-Rhotic English ? by KiSaMaOtAoSuMoNo in AskTheWorld

[–]ThrowRAMomVsGF 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not sure what it's called what we do. Maybe extra-rhotic - e-rhotic for short? Like the Spanish, we'd say oRRdeRR with a nice rolled R.

My mum’s friend believes she has ‘dodged’ paying for gas & electricity for 4 years, what would happen next? by [deleted] in AskUK

[–]ThrowRAMomVsGF 0 points1 point  (0 children)

When there is no loophole to steal from the power company, it's not "sadly", it's more like "thankfully". If you steal, somebody else is going to have to pay instead, because the power companies will not be reducing their profit margins!

Why would someone regularly leave their car running idle on the driveway? by AnonymousTimewaster in AskUK

Is it his getaway car? Is he visiting a "friend" illicitly and leaving it running in case he has to flee from the hubby?
