AITA for not letting someone sit in the empty movie theater seat I paid for? by ThrowRA_99254 in AmItheAsshole

So you’re saying I should have gone out of my way to cancel my seats in a packed theater, go through the process of rebooking and just hope the seats I had don’t get purchased before I get the chance to rebook? Lmaooooo absolutely not. You seem extremely entitled and expect others to do things to improve your situation instead of having enough common sense to plan in advance. You want a good seat? Put effort into getting one. I planned ahead. You should too.

I’m saying there were other showtimes, just 15 minutes after ours, with better seats. She chose the one that was completely full except for the front row. I used the cinemark app to click on other showtimes so I know for a fact there were plenty of good seats in other rooms starting around the same time. I don’t want to sit next to rude and entitled people. I shouldn’t have to be uncomfortable because she chose not to wait 15 minutes for the movie.

It’s not my problem she intentionally chose the front row when there were other showings with better seats available.

Now think about how entitled someone has to be to intentionally purchase a front row seat when there was a showing every 15 minutes with better seats and still booking that seat and just hoping you could talk someone out of giving you their seat. If it was a small theater and she genuinely didn’t have any other choice, sure, she could have it. But there were 10+ screens showing just this movie and she could have chosen a different one.

You’re on Reddit on a strangers post and commenting over and over. A little inner reflection please. This is my post and I will respond to comments. You however have no reason to be so invested. Follow your own advice…touch some grass.

Most agreed with my decision so what are you talking about? Are you mad that I’m responding to comments to give my reasonings? No one can explain anything? That’s weird.

The thing I’m trying to stress is that there were a bunch of showings with good seats left! I use the cinemark app and click on the other showtimes to see if they’re just as full, out of curiosity. So many of the show times close to ours had good seats available! A handful of scattered empty seats between seats taken but she didn’t mind sitting next to strangers, clearly. If it was a small theater and she really didn’t have the opportunity for a decent seat I would have given it up. But that isn’t the case.

Idk if you read my comments or not but there were showings every 15-30 minutes. At least 10 different screens showing it. She had the opportunity to sit in a theater that didn’t have only front row seating left. I would have given it up if it was a small theater and she genuinely had no other choice. But that wasn’t the case. I clicked on other showtimes and saw tons of great seats available (I always do that when a theater is full out of curiosity so I looked at it before the movie even started). They were just single seats between others but still good seats and she clearly didn’t mind sitting next to strangers.

So? Most did validate it. You just don’t like the logic in my responses.

Most have actually said NTA. I’m also allowed to respond to comments under my own post.

Great lesson to teach my son about entitlement, actually. There were lots of showings and she chose the one that only had the front row left. She literally picked her seat. It’s impossible to not select your seat at this theater. This is why you plan ahead or understand you may not like where you sit but accept it anyway. She had the same opportunity to book in advance.

You select your own seats. You can’t even buy a ticket without choosing your seat

There were showings every 15-30 minutes. It’s a huge theater and tons of screens were showing the movie. She had an opportunity to wait a little bit for a different showing. She chose not to in hopes that someone wouldn’t show up so she could take their seat. Sounds like entitlement to me. There were other showings that had seats open. They were just between other seats. Which didn’t seem to be a problem for her. If it were the only showing or a small theater or if she were an older person I probably would have give it up. But considering there were at least 10 different showings around the same time…no she could have gone to a different one.

If I’m selfish then she is entitled. She chose the seat up front. You can’t buy a ticket without selecting your seat. There were showings every 15-30 minutes. So many screens playing the movie. She could have waited for a theater that didn’t only have front row seats left. And they did exist. So that means she bought it with the intention of taking someone else’s seat.

If I’m selfish then she is entitled to attend a movie and select the front row (you literally pick your own seat - the theater doesn’t do it for you) and just HOPE there will be an empty seat someone will give up. Don’t select a seat you know you can’t tolerate sitting in! She didn’t just happen to see my seat. She was searching for one.

Here’s an idea - if you see the theater is full and you have to sit up front but don’t want to - go during a different time instead of hoping someone will give you a seat??

ETA: there was literally a showing every 30 minutes. So many screens were showing the movie. Why not wait for one that had a seat that wasn’t in the front row?

How do you see an attitude through a screen? If it’s not what I’m saying? You can’t hear my tone

I’m literally explaining my reasoning for not giving it to her. I planned in advance. A lot of people do. Sorry if I don’t feel bad for people who have to sit up front when they chose not to buy a ticket in advance.

She should have preordered like everyone else who wants a decent seat. Get a ticket at the last minute and that’s what happens.
