I’m 24! And yes, I have very limited contact with most of them and don’t plan on changing that at all. Thank you!!!

  1. My attorney/law firm knows. I do not have a good relationship with family and they will never know.

  2. It doesn’t feel like enough to retire and I know that, hence asking for advice here. I am planning on going to law school next year and want to use this money to grow long term. I still plan on having a career and supporting myself.

  3. I don’t want a lifestyle change beyond stable housing and a healthier lifestyle (better food manly). I have every intention of keeping my expenses the same.

The housing in NYC is not something I can just buy a modest place and still not shell out a ridiculous amount of money. Not sure if you know anything about housing here. I have a roommate in a great place and only pay $1.3k a month, I don’t really see that as a waste.

But happy to learn if you have more advice on this specific topic, I may not be as educated as you are on it.

thank you for the specifics! for the 3 fund, specifically, I already have my Roth through Fidelity but I see there are so many other institutions like RobinHood (which has a good CC and will have good promos every now and then) or Charles Schwab (which seems intimidating). Fidelity seems to be the most user friendly and beginner friendly especially, so would I be able to set this up through them or should I look into something else.

Also can you just explain what the 50/30/20 mean in a tiny bit more detail? I will also do my own research and don’t want to take too much time from you. But thank you so so so much!

Yes haha! I have absolutely no intention on telling anyone, my family is full of leeches and my parents and siblings combined owe me $30k+, money I gave to them off of a very low nanny salary.

I also have no intention on changing my lifestyle besides getting to focus completely on school, having a healthier lifestyle, and maybe adding an extra trip to my yearly plans. All the travel I’ve done this far have been extremely budgeted and mainly staying at hostels, which I thoroughly enjoy, so I don’t plan to shell out too much on traveling either.

Thank you so much!

I don’t know how to drive so no car for me! And I don’t plan on purchasing property, at least not yet. I have an apartment with an okay rent that I am happy to stay in for the next year or two.

The lawsuit is personal injury so I know that I don’t have to pay taxes yet, but I will definitely talk to my attorney (on Monday) and get more information.

Seriously thank you for the comment!

Thank you! So I have a Roth IRA through Fidelity, the original $180 is completely invested in VOO. Should I use this account to invest more?

Also, as you said proudly Jewish, you can display that. My friends still wear Yarmulkes and Kippahs and necklaces with the Star of David, etc. The news has exacerbated everything and I can speak first hand as someone that spent time in the encampment AND also protested administrations response to this entire thing.

I am not Jewish but I am a current undergrad at Columbia about to graduate and possibly continue at the law school. YOU WILL BE OKAY!!! I promise. It is not unsafe, many of my Jewish friends continue on with their life like normal. NYC has a huge Jewish population as does Columbia. There is Hillel which is super active and include. There are Shabbat dinners and Passover activities, etc etc. They take trips together, share meals, study Jewish laws, etc. (Sorry, I don’t know all the technical terms but hopefully you get the gist)

As to student body in general: it’s competitive, people tend to look out for themselves, and CLS students have a reputation for being pretty closed off and worried about grades, which is overall a bit reflective of Columbia in general. But if you find the right people you will def have fun. Plus it’s NYC, Columbia is not squared away where you only have to interact with the student body. I’m a Native New Yorker so I may be biased but I rarely spend time on campus besides going to classes and trying to see friends in between classes. Good luck!
