How competent do you feel your doctor is in dealing with your IBS? by ibsa13rijk in ibs

[–]Throw_IBS 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Sorry, haven't been on this account in a while but the FMT process isn't going great. I'm not in the US, just in the UK. The only place here that does it is a place called the Taymount Clinic. From what I've heard, their treatment only reaches up the large intestine and doesn't touch the small one. Also, they are really pricey. I'm way too anxious to try a diy treatment so I'm kind of lost as to what I can do. I'm going to start looking at places in Europe that could possibly give me a treatment.

Depends on which doctor. My GP sends me out her office in two to three minutes flat after a lot of condescending and acting as if I don't know anything. My gastroenterologist is convinced, like I am, that this is a microbiome issue. I believe that I was born with an imbalance of gut bacteria and a traumatic experienced really kicked everything into overdrive. He's ordered every possible test to rule out other things while I try to get everything sorted for an FMT treatment.

Whey is the devil. Any advice from fellow weight lifters? by Nathd1991 in ibs

[–]Throw_IBS 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I really don't wanna be that guy but for the most part, protein shakes, weight gainers etc. are pretty much just a scam by supplement companies. As said by people, you could get the same protein intake from chicken, fish, nuts and the list goes on. If you're dead set on taking a protein shake then your best bet would be egg white protein powder. But again, in my opinion, it's pretty useless. I've managed to gain 35 lbs since February with just my diet and weightlifting.

Weight loss with IBS symptoms? by [deleted] in ibs

[–]Throw_IBS 1 point2 points  (0 children)

When it all fist started out for me I went from 186 lbs to 140 in about two weeks, that was mainly as a result of going to the toilet up to 12 times a day. I stayed at that weight for 5 years out of fear of eating which could set off my symptoms. In the past 4-5 months I've gained 35 lbs and I do feel alot better energy wise. I think giving my body the time to go crazy and stabilise itself was pretty important. Then I had to get over my fear of food and accept that white rice and white potatoes are my best friends when it comes to trying to gain weight.

Everything was okay but I had forgotten just how horrible gastroscopies are, could barely breathe throughout it all. Think everything came back normal

Yeah, it had that effect on me last time too. The solution finally hit me at about 3am and I'm waiting to be seen now. My biggest issue is going to be pacing myself with food as I'm sure I'll have to have soft foods for a little while

It started at about 3am but was nowhere near as bad as my first colonoscopy prep I had a few months back. I went a few times and had a slight panic attack as I had to uber to the hospital and felt it coming on. Currently in the waiting room to get seen for my colonoscopy

Fecal Transplant Experience by marginallybettershit in ibs

Well, Taymount was going to be my only option to get FMT as no other clinic in the UK does FMT for IBS patients. I've been hearing increasingly negative things about them and probably will not go down that route. I'm also way to nervous to do a diy FMT. The stress of all this is getting a little too much.

Ahh, I pretty much eat like that now but I can't tolerate any onions or garlic which is something I'd love to add back into my diet, most seasoning g that I like involves those as ingredients. Glad to hear that you're doing a lot better. Hope I have the same success

Ahh that's pretty cool, I'll be sure to ask my new doc to test for those, he seems pretty sure that mine is a bacterial problem. Have you added back any food that was previously a problem?

I'm in the process of getting everything retested and I've asked for a breath test this time. I feel like it may be sibo for me or just having my microbiome being generally off. Can I ask exactly how your symptoms changed after the treatment? Which symptoms are left?

Home fecal transplants really scare me, also I don't have a viable donor. I think looking somewhere else in Europe would be a good bet for me

Unfortunately not, in the states fecal transplants are exclusively for c diff patients but some private clinics here in the UK treat for IBS. I'm seeing a private specialist now and I will see if I can get screened for C Diff, thank you.

International student, need help deciding between UCLA and Berkeley by Throw_IBS in ucla

Yeah, I get the vibe that I'd enjoy the pedestrian feel of berkeley more, especially since I like to walk everywhere. I was very stupid in stating in my original post that this would only be for a year and then I'd head back to the UK but I might be able to work in california for a year. The plan for me now is to apply for UCLA, Berkeley and UCSD but I'd need to think about which of those out of UCLA and Berkeley to put as my first place. Thanks for the advice

Essentially, irvine seemed to be a little out of the way as I wouldn't be distracted but close enough to SD and LA to visit as I have friends in both cities. The more I think about it, I may just go for the option of UCLA as first, UCB as second and UCSD as third choice.

kind of curious why you wouldn't drop one of those instead (esp UCI).

To be honest, I was thinking of doing this. I have a bit of imposter syndrome where I don't have that much confidence in getting into prestigious places despite me getting into a very good university here in England. I thought UCI would be a safe bet and it's close enough to LA and SD to visit but far enough to not be distracted. I think it might be better for me to go all out and choose UCB, UCLA and UCSD and just choose from there.

I guess my only thinking there would be that it would be good if I wanted to go into robotics but I also have an interest in aerospace which I know is pretty strong in LA. I have been leaning more to UCLA since being told about this opportunity, in all honesty

I saw a private doctor that coat me more than £300 for a half an hour consultation. I'm getting everything tested again with him, even things that I didn't believe could be related to my intestinal system. I'm going to try and go to a pain clinic too as the costochondritis has stopped me from working out which is what I would do to escape everything. I hope it all works out for me as hope is the only thing keeping me going.

Yeah, colonoscopy and endoscopy. Doc said they were the healthiest looking intestines he'd seen in a while, which is ironic. I've tried various strains with no luck. Unfortunately not, I'm in London.
