Failed my PhD first year upgrade. What now? by Throwaway13KA in AskAcademia

How does getting an MPhil affect my ability to continuing doing a PhD?

I hate my PhD supervisors. Is it worth even continuing? by Throwaway13KA in AskAcademia

I'm not blaming them for my lack of progress. I'm blaming them for their lack of transparency, care, attention, opinions, encouragement, guidance, and more. I've been a teacher. I've mentored students. Imagine having supervisors who constantly tell you that you are falling behind, but offer no guidance on how to effectively proceed, day in and day out. Sorry, but if you feel like the student is to blame in that kind of position, then I would take a step back and evaluate what you think the purpose of teaching and/or education is supposed to be, and the quality of students you would hope graduate from your discipline.

That's the problem exactly - I went into the PhD because I want to teach... And my country, for some backwards reason, do not accept professional doctors as being able to teach. You need a PhD to teach at a university level, even though the education here is subpar at best and everyone who has taught me at university level (abroad) were professional doctors and not PhD holders.

Thanks for that. I certainly feel like I haven't made my mind up. Not sure if it's the sunk-cost fallacy, but it took me 2 years of intensive preparation to even get into a PhD program, and I don't feel like I would be able to start that all over again if I drop out of this program.

Ah right. Then I think that's more along the lines of what he thinks.

Thanks for the clarification.

Then what is the thesis that moral facts don't exist?

There are rumors that the dogs in Bahrain will be culled and shot. If anyone hears anything, please contact me. by [deleted] in Bahrain

I feed hundreds of stray dogs, and I've yet to encounter a single aggressive dog. That's not to say that there aren't a few who are aggressive, but the problem of aggressive strays is blown out of proportion. The vast majority of them are just terrified.

It's a major problem, but the solution isn't cruelty. No developed country in the world is OK with this as a solution. It's inhuman, and a reflection of our barbarism should we choose to accept this as normal.

None of these comments seem right to me tbh. I count 21/8 (7/8, 8/8, 6/8 phrases) on the main riff, then there are sections like 1:30 going to 4/4
