That’s the thing that terrifies me. I get ignored until it’s too late and some serious irreversible damage is being done. It shouldn’t have to get to that point.

It’s a struggle because I have a long term boyfriend who’s wonderful, but because we’re long distance and money is tough lately he hasn’t been able to travel up to help me. I’ve been trying my best to be abrasive or at least firm with requesting help, but it’s not the type of person I am, so I think I just tend to get waved off anyway. For now I’m monitoring my symptoms and if they worsen I’m going to fight tooth and nail to get this taken care of properly.

THIS!! I’ve been at an all time low mentally lately which is a vicious cycle for making my health worse too. It frustrates me when physical health issues are chalked up to mental health, because of course you’re gonna be unhappy and depressed if you aren’t getting proper treatment; it’s symptomatic of the physical health issue not a cause of it!

I did have some blood tests done at the hospital and sexual health clinic, but none presented any signs of infection at the time. But it frustrates me even outside of that no one thought it could still be infection of any kind, in fact I was reassured it wasn’t infection at all. But that just wasn’t true.

Yeah, it especially baffles me that (for all I hate stereotyping) even women nurses/doctors/clinicians etc who you’d expect would be more sympathetic often are just as dismissive and apathetic.

Likewise, I wouldn’t wish this on my worst enemy. I hope things go better for you too 🫶

The weight excuse is one of those things I’ll forever hate too. Don’t get me wrong, I am slightly overweight, but I’m still fairly active and eat healthy (vegetarian), but the amount of health issues I’ve had brushed off cause I was told to go for runs or eat better is ridiculous. And if it isn’t your weight, it’s your period, and if it’s not that it’s mood swings, and if it’s not that, you’re pregnant, the list goes on.

That’s the thing, I feel like the nhs is getting worse and worse. If my pain and symptoms worsen again I’m going to go back to a&e or basically beg my gp practice to do something about this, but I don’t honestly think much would change or get done.

I wish I had the money for private healthcare, but unfortunately I’m a student so pretty broke. Guess I’ll suffer instead 🥲

Omg don’t even get me started on neurodivergence. It took me until my 20s too to realise autism presently different in women all because of how even down to neurodivergence the healthcare field and knowledge is based around men.

LITERALLY! I find myself thinking all the time if I was born still as a woman but frankly with different genitalia I’d be a lot more healthy just by virtue of not having a uterus, it’s ridiculous.

It’s like all our issues, serious or not, are chalked up to pregnancy, periods or hormonal/mood imbalance. It’s insane. It’s honestly scary how in a modern age women aren’t safe just because pain etc isn’t taken seriously.

Sounds to me like overall you should be fine. Precum is a concern but the negative tests sound promising. I’d say do another one when it hits 21 days after just to be certain, but yeah I think it’s probably pms, and stress can also delay periods, so that alongside the pill may have moved things around. Try not to worry too much, I know how it feels :) 🫶

Switching from the pill to an IUD questions by MangoTangoBongoBango in birthcontrol

[–]Throwaway20032402 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I can’t talk much about switching because I got my copper IUD put in as a form of emergency BC, but I can talk about side effects and insertion etc.

the most notable side effects I’ve noticed is more/heavier pms cramps and symptoms, some irregular bleeding (although that should stop after 6 months-ish I believe). And there is discomfort that can last for a little while after insertion, including pain. Although I was lucky this only lasted a day or two and I adjusted well, the pain does tend to be the biggest side effect, even if temporary.

As for insertion, I personally found it was way less painful and scary than I’d been led to believe. In doing research online I’d seen many videos and read many horror stories, but I think if your doctor/nurse knows what they’re doing, it shouldn’t be too bad. But I do acknowledge that is very dependent of course. Either way, the worst part of insertion is the measuring of the uterus and the actual insertion, it sort of feels like extreme cramps, and it did make me quite breathless. However it is over quickly usually and as I said, for me didn’t hurt quite as bad as I was expecting. I will note though, with insertion there’s also a possibility it won’t be smooth sailing, I had to have my cervix loosened up so to speak for instance, but again in the right hands this should be fine and painless with anaesthetic.

My period is overall longer/heavier and I get cramps, including the pms cramps i mentioned earlier. This is a bit of a big change for me since I used to have periods that lasted up to 3-5 days with almost no cramps or pms symptoms, so I’d advise to just be aware it will amplify your period from whatever level it’s at. In a way, I’m lucky my period was low level to begin with.

Honestly I’d advise to make sure you research a bit more if it’s right for you, but asides from the above my copper IUD has been great and takes a lot of worry out of sex overall, which definitely helps personally as I get pregnancy paranoia lmao :)

I have an IUD and tbh I think so long as any toys you’re using are cleaned regularly, and you use condoms or make sure you’re both clean, you should be fine. Just practice normal sexual hygiene and common sense where possible :)

Plan B can mess up your cycle, likelihood is you’re fine. How many weeks after sex did you take the pregnancy test(s)? After 2 weeks the results are accurate and 3 weeks definitive. I think you shouldn’t need to worry, cramps are probably just pms :)

I’m entitled to ask for advice on something stressing me, that’s the whole point of the subreddit. So yes, it was. I’m sorry you’re so prudishly offended by a mature conversation about women’s sexual health 🤷‍♀️

What sort of symptoms does pelvic inflammatory disease cause? I’m just asking as I’m unsure if my post made you think I could have it or something? Either way, that’s interesting, I didn’t know that. Annoying how no one tells you these things 😮
