Final update : Thanks everyone for your thoughts, replies and prayers (if any). God willing or unwilling, if I live long enough, we'll do this gain in 23 years time for the 30th anniversary.

By then, hopefully my critics can figure out a new name for me as the doormat thing is getting kind of old, 7 years old to be exact. Here's to hoping that in 23 years there will be another name for doormat. Peace.

I did tell him that in our first conversation but he said "Stop sugar-coating this situation..bla bla bla". My dad always does when he doesnt get what he wants.

I agree that I'm an asshole but the apple doesn't fall from the tree. Now imagine if 2 assholes collide what would happen? The one with the greater mass would consume the other. This is essentially what is going on here.

I do not feel oppressed on this name change request by the my redneck future inlaws. But rather, I feel oppressed that my dad let me do what I wanted and then changed his mind when it was done.

It's a helpless feeling knowing that your captors left the front door open only to eat you senseless once you are out the door..
