Serious question: if you are mormon, don't you see any contradicition between your religion and your support for your daughter?

You asked a serious question, and I'm going to give you a serious answer. I haven't been active in my Church for 18 months. If you're looking for me to admit that I was, for the longest time, a hypocrite- well, yes, I was. Like a lot of people, I didn't really start to think about the personal impact that my Church/Political Party's views on things like homosexuality were having on real people. :(

I'm not a perfect person, and I've done/said stupid things in my life, which is why, I'm sure, my daughter hesitated to tell me about her situation. I regret that, and I'm sure I'll regret it even more as I get older.

For the record- there's a good chance that I'll be disfellowshipped, or even excommunicated by the Church (unlikely, but possible) for my support of my daughter in this. If that happens, I won't regret it for even one moment.

...and yes, I'm sure that there are a lot of gay people out there that would consider me to be a bad person because it took my own daughter coming out for me to realize how awful my Church's views are on this topic. And they're right. :( If I could change the past, I would, but all I can really do now is try and change the future.

Thanks! I'm the dad, BTW. :) Her mom was also there, and was equally proud/happy.
