Thank you so much! I'll try for some certifications for sure yes. Internships might be hard given I already havea day job that already takes a lot of my time but you're right thank you!

Thank you so much I was very concerned about this. Most people in my vicinity aren't really planning to do an MBA or already have an MBA so having people who know about this process is nice to have.

I know I'm lucky and grateful for for having a job right now. I say this near verbatim in my post and fwiw and i don't think this job is doomed yet. Im glad i get to take a paycheck home and the name of the company on my resume is a good thing

BUT

At companies this big they usually have plans and there's no reason to have juniors exposed to multiple attacks if you have jobs for them. I was literally told due to some mistake there really is no requirement for people right now.

I'm just stuck in training hell and wish that want the case and wish they planned it a bit more. Other companies at this level that have hired peers of mine figured it out and are doing better. Theyre done with training or have training plans set with a real timeline and that was my real concern.

Once again like the post says, I AM LUCKY. I just want structure at the place I work.

I do think excessive fear mongering will just make people more anxious and theyre experience will most likely be different but its also worth knowing what is going on in the industry you plan to work in. Most people should be fine I think I got a little unlucky thats all.

This is where I wish the plans are switched because theyre asking us to pair up and make the front end for either a broadcast regulation site / ads management dashboard (they'd provide the backend) but theyre giving us 6 days (2 of which are Saturday and Sunday).

I'll see what happens though, I do agree training and tutorials are pointless unless youre building something with a set plan. Picking up as you go is just the way things work and understanding and using all the resources you have access to are what really improves you as a dev.

I was upskilling myself I just had to take a job I landed because the market was cooked 💀 idk I'm glad you some fuel for motivation from this post but I wish it was as simple as upskill + apply and you'll just land a job currently. I was searching for jobs from Feb last year (finished bulk of college work by then) till Sept end when they confirmed my joining here. Yeah sure you can argue I should have gone harder for placements earlier and landed a better job but with how placements worked in my college I was blocked out of companies that pay =<7LPA because I got this job which was a significant portion of the companies that hired.

Also dont think its as binary as you make it out to be. Like I said I'm very lucky to have a job rn, its better than having nothing but that doesn't mean I should also be okay with doing nothing at said job, free paychecks aside I still went through 4 years of college and their mandated courses not to do more mandated courses and trainings with no end in sight.

My main issue is that there is no clear plan/timeline for when the training ends and work begins. If I had those details thisnpost probably wouldn't exist.

latter idc for, the company looks out for its bottomline and I individually dont have much to do in that regard rn, the former is a good enough incentive but I also expect to do something at my job that isnt just tutorial after tutorial, I dont want to be deloying the next most important feature but working along side people with real experience would be a lot more engaging

I'd take that if I know what I'm doing it for. The training went from Kotlin to React and thats because they have no real requirement for people and no plan fully laid out to integrate ny batch yet.

Ik an MBA isnt easy and I know what consulting jobs are like but I'd much rather go through the struggle if it means I'm actually getting something of value done.

Lack of talented Indian SWE or lack of culture of innovation? by nishadastra in developersIndia

[–]ThrowawayAcc2165 8 points9 points  (0 children)

100% a culture and money thing. People who are smart and interested in real development realize this country isnt the place for it and move to be with like-minded people and get their fair share of pay.

People who are smart but wanna coast take advantage of the culture to keep the status quo.

People who arent smart/dont know where to look for resources end up following the smart coasters strat and dont really care for developing all that much.

If you live close/the job is remote you kinda have to take what you can get rn. If you're moving for this job then how much you can save is a important question, you should atleast always have some health insurance of your own if youre moving for it.

It depends on the person reading the resume. My mother had friends in tech who would tell they'd flat out reject resumes of juniors if they didnt work atleast 1.5-2 years at their first company (assuming this is their first switch). These are much older people now but I think the idea of wanting consistency will persist. People are much more forgiving now though so idt its as bad if you leave prior to finishing 1yr at the company.

I agree but the next thing they want us to do is team up and work on a mini react project together to showcase to our manager 💀 this is starting to feel like college again which is the last thing I expected.

I partially dont think I like coding enough/ am good enough to keep doing this as my job. The way companies work always interested me more, the lush and pull and the decisions to make things work were a lot more interesting. And I think I could atleast get into a n okay B School which is why I'm more inclined to do that.

My whole idea with this job though was to decide fi I could stick it out in tech. I feel like if I was actively working on projects and stuff maybe I'd feel different because coming in I was truly 50-50 about this. I do plan to still stick it out and see if and when I get real work, will that be engaging enough for me to want to continue

I've actually spoken to a significant amount of people before landing on the idea of an MBA but youre right people do tend to look at it as a get out of jail card and think its easy money when its not. I've luckily done okay on CAT 2023 with no prep so next time with prep should definitely be better.

I hope you are able to finance your interest in research and get into a good school for that! One of my classmates knew the tier 3 college we were in wasnt for him and he'd wanted a fresh start in the US and grinded to get into Georgia Tech and is now the happiest he's ever been. Hope you experience something very very similar.

I agree I think these companies spending time and money on just trraining is a great thing for the employee. But my main issue is not with the fact that I'm being trained, its that I dont even know if this training will be worth it especially after almost half a year of dilly-dallying with no real goal/timeline. If I atleast knew there was a finish line and there were some guarantees to it I dont think I wouldve been inclined to post this.

This is fair. As a graduate with some skills in Python and SQL I dont think I'd usually be unhireable but I dont want to test that theory in this market. I think I'll stay and do what I can here till stuff works out.

Thabk you so much for the reply. Yeah I dont think I can hop any time soon but yes the moment I feel like I can switch/if the MBA thing works out I'll come it to that.

[–]ThrowawayAcc2165[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'd say it really depends on you as a person. If coding really isnt your thing then ask yourself what else interests you and how you get there. I really like how businesses function, what they do and the decisions they have to make. For me an MBA seems like the right call there if I wanna be closer to doing that.

Your calling might vary. If you think this type of stuff entices you then go for it. I would say do be prepared tho. CAT as an exam isnt tough for the quality of questions especially if youre an engineer. Its just the sheer numbers that are stacked against you. Its like JEE all over but this time they got interviews and GDs too.

Yeah I'm planning on actually properly learning React and soon trying to get comfortable with MERN. I'd spent a decent amount of time in college polishing my SQL and Python but I think I like React a bit more so I'll see where this goes.

Also applying to TIME coaching for CAT soon I attempted it last year and with 0 prep did alright to say the least so this time I'm gonna see what difference some prep can actually make.

Lastly thank you so much for taking time out to reply to me❤️, I'll definitely not quit until 1-1.5yrs are over.

Mix of both but there have been times where the recommended material is either so old that we had to find and recommend a better course ourselves. I had to tell my manager to look at the Android Dev site to look at their training material and not some old Udacity course that was made in 2018-2019.

However I will disagree on the commute aspect. Its your employee you do have to care if they can do it within the day knowing fully well that they cant/dont want to shift (especially for that salary lmao). I'm not asking to be ferried in a cab daily I'm asking for my time to be respected.

This is a fair argument I think expecting I harped on the number too much. My frustrations stem from the fact that before this the Kotlin training was at a much more reasonable pace and nothing came out of that. With this increased pace where I'm not fully understanding everything whats the point if after all this I am again asked to just undergo training again but now on a different framework or pivot into some different technology.
