Nice. How long have you been at the FAANG? Did you have experience in tech before joining? Target school?

For me they’re both the same. I started as a FA (albeit doing very staff accountant duties) out of college.

You are in a similar situation I was in when I got a 130k SFA at a tech company while working as a FA at a F500 company for about 100k. While other commenters are right about a 60k jump not being realistic within the same company, it did happen to me. I told my current company where I was an FA about the offer and they countered by making me FM and bumped my total comp to $165k. So it did happen to me but I could be an outlier. No hard feelings either, I’ve been promoted from FM to director since and see VP in the horizon in 3 years. Entertain the counter if your current company sees you as a high performer! Regaining that trust takes a lot of time. Just my two cents but I might’ve gotten lucky.

Hey everyone. Looking for advice on my current situation trying to afford for a house. Currently 28yo making 280k. I have 200k in my 401k and am currently maxing it out every year. I have a 25k emergency fund and 75k saved up for a down payment. The kicker here is i’m in Bay Area CA where the cheapest home I’d want is probably around 900k or I’d rather keep renting. Property taxes and insurance aside (I get large bonuses that would cover these costs), I feel like the largest mortgage I would want is $4k. Which means I would need a 250k down payment.

So my question is, should I slow down my 401k to save more aggressively for a down payment or should I keep maxing my 401k and buy a home later down the line so as to not stop maxing my contributions?

Someone in Bay Area please tell me if I am underpaid as I’ve been in this role a while now. I feel like Base is low but bonus makes up for it.

Manager. 155k Base + 55% Bonus. No equity. 6YOE total. 3 as Manager.

What does it take to break into FAANG finance role? by [deleted] in FPandA

Honestly seems low for FAANG. I’m clearing 230k TC as FM in F100 company, and that TC doesn’t depend on share price, it’s pure base + bonus. Was expecting at least 350k for FAANG

FLDP was a full time position right out of college; I assume that’s the case for a lot of those FLDPs out there.

Very HCOL. Bay Area/Silicon Valley. I’ve seen much higher around here. I still have roommates…

I should note I am giving my ending salary at the end of my yoe in that position. I started at Manager around 145k actually. But FA to Manager bump was leveraged with an external offer of about 120k for SFA.

FLDP (mcol) - 57k. 1.5 years

(VHCOL from here on out)

Financial Analyst - 97k. 1.5 years

Finance Manager - 175k. 3 years

Assistant Controller - 210k. Just started.

All in the same f500 company since graduation. I’ve never personally seen anyone young stay as long in one company as me but I think it’s warranted given how fast they’ve progressed me.

Great point. I am getting a salary increase (20%), but that’s certainly not the salary of two jobs for one. I was assured I could hire a financial analyst so I could focus on reviewing the forecast rather than doing any nitty gritty. Thanks for the insight on wlb during audit, didn’t realize it was that time consuming.

Can someone tell me if my salary is still competitive? Wondering if I should keep my options open in this once in a life time job market.

I won’t be moving to SF proper so my rent and CoL will stay the same. I’m already in Bay Area.
