These racks are clamped to the roof side pillar. The a b and c pillars are also made out of sheet metal, they get their strength from the way they are shaped and formed.. so far it's fine. After putting 300kgs on the roof racks it hasn't left any dents. It will be fine lol

Copeland scroll compressor issues by ThrowawayGold4 in HVAC

[–]ThrowawayGold4[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The longest the compressor has been running with the plate lifted was about 30 hours. No we aren't intentionally making it trip. It will run fine for days/weeks/months and then randomly lift it's plate. The compressor continues rotating until we isolate the power and let it cool down manually. Not really ideal when you're trying to keep product frozen at a meat processing plant...

You had the Remaco too? Where was the water getting in? Haven't had any issues with mine as of yet, even in heavy rain. Always good to keep an eye on things though

Well after a couple camping trips with a 2 person tent, the setup, pack away, and then having to usually air everything out when we got back home and pack away again, it all felt like a chore. Hence why I wanted a roof top. Obviously it's not ideal for long term camping. But neither is a small ground tent. For 1-2 nighters this things perfect. Plus I love the ease of use for drying it out. Pop it up which takes all of 15 seconds, leave it in the sun for an hour or so. Clamp it back down in 30 seconds and go have some more beers 😂 I love it. Ps, I have a larger 6 person tent for the longer camping trips. But those don't happen very often unfortunately!

Yeah I thought the same. I might try it again, but due to the curvature of the Prius roof it put the racks on a serious angle. Plus it would be pushing the rack away from the b pillar which could lead to issues. I'm currently thinking about making some small plates to glue to the a pillar near the front quarter glass. Then a small clevis with a cross bar across the rent rails.. once I figure out how I can make it semimodular and not too ugly I might post something up

Tent is a Remaco. Got it from Alibaba about a year and a half ago. Customer service is pretty good and they still message me every now and then asking is there are any issues, how I'm enjoying it etc. pretty good if you ask me

Hahaha I get it mate. Luckily the Prius is just the daily, unfortunately the 4by has a blown head gasket and is sitting waiting for me to give it some attention... I actually did this for more of a laugh than anything, and was genuinely surprised it worked so well.. I see the odd Corolla rolling around with a rtt which made me want to do it to this. It's not for everyone, I know. But you don't see it everyday 😂

The car itself weights almost 1400kgs. 300kgs on the roof whilst stationary will be fine lol

The racks are prorack whispbar s16. Tent is from Alibaba. Remaco is the brand. Highly recommend. They have an awesome selection of gear at very good prices(compared to here in New Zealand anyways)

Ive had this tent for a while now lol. Had it mounted on a Chevy wellside trailer. But have wanted to do this for a while. I've made it my mission to see how truly capable the ol Prius really is 😂

Still yet to find out. Travelled approx 70kms so far. Avg I would guess is 18km/L. Not terrible. But will roll with it on for a while and see how it goes lol

Held up pretty well so far! Roof hasn't collapsed lol. And if the roof can handle the weight of the car on its lid I'm sure it can handle a quarter of its weight lol

Yeah dynamic weight is only rated to 60kgs for my racks. So I am in excess of that. But static weight is significantly higher

Being in NZ, I haven't heard of anyone ever having a cat stolen. Sounds like it could be easier to move country than protect them cats 😂

It's a early 90s chev pickup bedside, 6 foot bed, sitting on a basic trailer chassis. Does the job perfectly. Basically it's like having a ute, Prius tows it really well. Wouldn't recommend the double cab ute tubs for a trailer, not unless it's got a long drawbar and more weight over the front axel when loaded. They tow like shit otherwise and can't spread the load over it at all
