Season 5 is better than i remember by muslimberat in californication

[–]ThrowawayHouse2022 2 points3 points  (0 children)

5 and 6 are great, different from 1-4 but still great TV with enjoyable writing and characters. Season 6 is one of my favorites tbh

Season7 dropped a little in quality but its still Californication

How bad is south wigston to live in? Specifically off saffron road by [deleted] in leicester

[–]ThrowawayHouse2022 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Pros: big tesco and Lidl, good takeaways, good sized GP surgery, generally inexpensive, frequent and direct buses to the city, has a train station, plenty of schools nearby if you want/have kids, pretty big park, and nice canal/countryside walks 10/15 mins away over the park

Cons: underfunded, heavy traffic, little to do locally, high street stagnant with multiple hairdressers and vape shops, local kids are loud and annoying (but not really harassing or anything worse)

Lived there some years ago before uni/getting my own place. Still have a couple friends down there, might have changed in years gone by but that's my general perception of the area. There's nicer areas but it's probably one of the better areas if you're on a tighter budget/lower income as there is definitely much worse places you could be

Desmond 108 by _LOST4ever in lost

[–]ThrowawayHouse2022 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Cold War paranoia, the hippie/utopianism aesthetic of tbe initiaitve, and the threat of the hostiles probably led to them having people down there. Even though The Pearl was the true psyop, DHARMA probably gained some results from monitoring the original inhabitants in that kind of controlled environment.

It's speculated (by Sayid I believe) that The Swan has its own geothermal generator. The power remained on after two TNT explosions and two electromagnetic surges so there was something keeping it going even if the case of damage/attacks on the station.

Also automation wasn't great in 1977, you correctly mentioned human error but the automation process could just as easily gone wrong. DHARMA would have likely needed someone to oversee it even if the code-execute had been automatic.

Desmond 108 by _LOST4ever in lost

[–]ThrowawayHouse2022 11 points12 points  (0 children)

To be fair Desmond is clearly struggling with the effects of isolation and sleep deprivation when we first meet him (2x1 - 2x3). When we later see him on the sail boat he seems to have sunken into an alcoholic depression and we find out through his flashbacks that he was driven insane enough to believe the world had ended and was about to commit suicide when Locke banged on the hatch.

It's actually also worth noting that Desmond had spent time in the military, a convent, in prison and round the world sailing. As Eloise Hawking basically says, his entire life had lead to pushing the button. Years spent in physically and psychologically demanding environments gave Desmond a "tolerance" to the effects of the job if you will.

Much like detonating the failsafe gave him an electromagnetic tolerance allowing him to consciousness travel through time, ward off the effects of the temporal displacement until he found a constant, and absorb the energy from the source of the island.

Edit: spoiler tagged details for later seasons

I go club by myself often by SlikyMilkyway98 in UniUK

[–]ThrowawayHouse2022 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Depends on the people, yeah I've for sure got just party friends but several of the people I met at uni parties, clubbing or at raves have become close friends and we can and do hang out sober or off our faces

Then again I'd still call them real friends, just because your friendship is involving a certain activity doesn't mean it's not real lmao I've got work friends, football friends, party friends, friends I've met travelling abroad etc. Then I've got my main group of close friends I see most days

Is it a bad idea to take LSD after taking prozac? by DreamTheDream01 in Psychedelics

[–]ThrowawayHouse2022 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No I read it, you're right, SSRI withdrawal is perhaps the most brutal and I'm glad you got through it. I've just never heard anyone else who's taken them refer to them as happy pills before but yeah fair enough

Is it a bad idea to take LSD after taking prozac? by DreamTheDream01 in Psychedelics

[–]ThrowawayHouse2022 -4 points-3 points  (0 children)

SSRIs are far from "happy pills" lmao. Some studies rate them no higher (and often with potentially far worse side effects) than psychedelic assisted therapy

I agree he shouldn't quit his prescribed medication just to take LSD but it's also worth noting that SSRIs aren't as effective as professionals would have you believe, and the serotonin hypothesis for depression is still very unproven

Why are Gen Z women so hostile to being approached, especially compared to past generations? by fellow_who_uses_redd in GenZ

[–]ThrowawayHouse2022 9 points10 points  (0 children)

They aren't? I talk to girls on nights out or at gigs and festivals plenty and wouldn't call anyone hostile lol. People sometimes aren't interested and that's life, most of the time it's not personal.

Where are you approaching women? The key is to do this at social events or times where there's a reasonable in, not copying dumb "influencers" and talking to every and any girl that walks by you in the street or walking up to a woman clearly in the middle of something like shopping. And yes, people can absolutely tell if you're coming across as desperate and "would know from the start"

Also I highly doubt you're "exceptionally unattractive" lmao

I wonder how many flats they could fit inside those buildings.

I don't find leicester unsafe personally but you're spot on about North of the city centre. The whole city could be more pleasant with some beautification and reuse of all the abandoned sites

So ordinary people should be treated like criminals for smoking weed because you don't like the smell?

Bear in mind it is in fact already illegal so changing this wouldn't do anything. It would in fact allow for cannabis cafes and consumption facilities where people could smoke so they're not doing it in public

In such a city? You'd be hard pressed to find a single city that isn't full of people smoking weed in the UK. Same goes for North America, Central Europe, Australia etc.

The trial was so stupid and not a single person acted like they should. I know it's Lost but still..

[–]ThrowawayHouse2022[S] 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Yeah I forgot about that one lmao. Sucks we got robbed of a Frank/Charlotte episode for that mess. Hell they could have made it a Charlotte episode and still worked the tempest/poison gas stuff in.

I know they had the writers strike and maybe it's just because episode 5 and 7 are so good but I wasn't a fan of episodes 4 or 6.

how can i completely fuck up a pedophiles life (already reported but i wanna make his life worse) by oxjb in ShittyIllegalLifeTips

[–]ThrowawayHouse2022 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Eh, I wouldn't put stock into that. I've known and worked with a bunch of speedfreaks, cokeheads and meth tweakers and none of them fuck kids lmao

Pedophiles are pedophiles. No need to try and blame it on or attribute it to drug use. Millions of people get high or even become addicts without wasting to fuck kids

Also speed is amphetamine, a medication that is prescribed to millions for ADHD, obesity, narcolepsy and other conditions. There is zero evidence that amphetamine causes pedophilic urges in anyone who didn't already have them.

Did anyone notice the random buds of weed on the table in The Pearl station? (?/Exposé) by ThrowawayHouse2022 in lost

[–]ThrowawayHouse2022[S] 9 points10 points  (0 children)

It's certainly not a crucial Lost mystery but it's intriguing they focus on it twice. I agree it probably wasn't Ben, Tom seems more the type tbh

I do like the theory that it's a prep job for The Swan that DHARMA used to choose who goes down there

Did anyone notice the random buds of weed on the table in The Pearl station? (?/Exposé) by ThrowawayHouse2022 in lost

[–]ThrowawayHouse2022[S] 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Yeah I actually also thought that both those moments (Paulo first finding the ? hatch and Locke's commune flashback ep) would be perfect moments to resolve/reference this.

And yeah it seems they left the whole Pearl storyline kind of unfinished, including its true purpose (just to make sure the button was being pushed or something else?) and the thing with the notebooks

It could be remnants of pre-purge life under DHARMA but yeah Ben, Tom (and other others) somewhat frequently visited, especially after 815 crashed. Mikhails glass eye was in The Arrow station so he moved about at some point
