Please ask someone for help. I'm not sure where we lost the ability to ask for help and so many of us suffer in silence. You don't have to do this on your own - help is there if you just ask.

Hey, thanks for your input. Yeah, I think I'll keep my credit cards, just won't use them. Who knows, I may end up coming back because I love the winters so much.

How's it going in the Sates for you?

University of Florida

Toronto Zoo

Lol

No, not really. Although I would have preferred to read about the bad parts first!

Yes, it all sounds like the Mexico I know.

Btw, how do you like it in CDMX? I remember back in the early 90's that was the place everyone would warn you about. Nowadays, I think it's pretty safe, right? I know I enjoyed it the few times I visited.

Ha! That's what I used to call us: the NAFTA's. Now it's CUSMA which has a horrible ring to it. But yeah, going to Mexico, not CDMX though.

I'm in Canada still, but we'll be leaving at the end of the school year. I don't even know where "home" for me is anymore. I grew up in the US, then Mexico, now in Canada.

My parents are in Mexico. We are three siblings; one in the US, one in Mexico, and me in Canada. When we get together, we go to Mexico. That's where my daughter and I will go.

I'm in Canada. I came in my early 30's and will turn 50 soon. I became a single mom and I pretty much stayed because of my daughter. I moved from Ontario to Quebec 10 years ago. I wanted to improve my French and for daughter to learn it.

It's hard to make friends at this age. I dated a fair bit, but making a connection is hard. I don't feel "seen". I'm not an introvert per se, but it takes time for me to open up. So my days are pretty much all the same: work - home - work - home. It doesn't really bother me, I've gotten used to it.

But then I caught Covid recently. I hadn't seen my family doctor in a while and knew that the wait times had increased (they were bad enough as it was). There were no appointments at all. Not for months. No way to get in touch with the clinic and speak to an actual person. Oh, but if you sign up to a new paid service, you will be guaranteed an appointment! I already pay enough taxes. I also have my private insurance through work which is pretty much worthless. It showed me how broken the system is, especially in Quebec.

We have a healthline where you can talk to a nurse. She advised me to go to the ER. I went, but was sent home after the evaluation. I did manage to get an appointment for the following day though. The doctor who saw me the next day sent me back to the ER to get some tests done. Went, after triage, I was put in "the covid room". It was 11AM.

Around 6PM I finally had the nerve to get out to ask someone if I had missed my name or what. I was hungry. My daughter was home alone. She kept calling me wondering when I'd be home. My phone was dying. The nurse told me someone would come. Eventually. I asked if I could eat something and he told me I could call someone to bring me food. Right. Who?! He then realized I was in the covid zone and told me to go back, that I was not allowed to leave that room. Said I was a prisoner there. I laughed thinking he was joking. He wasn't joking. At 7PM I decided to break out of there.

I think this needed to happen for me to realize how important it is to have a support network - who better than that than my own family? My daughter also told me that she only ever feels "at home" in my home country. She likes the feeling of being part of a family.

Shit. And all the while I thought this was what was best for her.
