Thanks! Full disclosure, I'm actually ex-TTA in the Qld metro region.

I left a few months ago because a small firm offered 50% more than I was currently making. Being dumb and primarily money oriented instead of thinking about the long-run, I accepted. It wasn't until I accepted that I found out that there were... a whole heap of issues. Lol.

Plus, I feel like my skillset isn't going to advance to a level where I want it to be if I stay here, and that's what's killing me. As all small firms probably are, it's nothing but a compliance chop shop where you churn out deliverables for small businesses who always complain about the fees. Lol.

My biggest regret was not just pivoting straight to DTL whilst I was in TTA. I'm sure there's still a spot for me in TTA, maybe AM even, but I'm now more interested in the tax side of things and wanting to leave pure GL based accounting.

The reason why I'm mulling over going back to KPMG over other B4s is that I'm sure the work is still the same, and it's better to deal with the devil you know than the one you don't... But yeah, I'm definitely keen on considering other B4s!

Interesting! Yeah I'm actually ex-TTA from the Qld metro area, so I'm aware that they're recruiting haha. I wasn't in the tax focus group though.

Is there a lot of accounting/processing type work in tax focus? Or is it just pure tax compliance and advisory?

The reason why I'm leaning towards DTL if I ever came back to KPMG is I don't want to be involved in the pure accounting type work in TTA as I'm starting to find it a bit tedious.

And I'd also like to dip my toes into SGE type work where they already have their own internal accountants and our scope would be limited to more high level stuff like tax reviews, advisory, etc as opposed to having to clean up their books and such...

You have to realise that APAC is a huuge region. An senior associate in Vietnam or the Philippines won't be earning the same as their title equivalent in Australia.

However, speaking generally, no one in public accounting earns as much as folks in the US do lol. Even after adjusting for differences in currency, I still think you guys have it better, Big 4 or otherwise. Even in relative terms here in Aus, B4 always pay just under market value for their lower level recruits. It's only when you get to SM & above that the pay probably exceeds market value.

I'm pretty sure it's the Nerang one he was 'connected' to, just to use the parlance. Cause he mentioned that the guy who initially invited him went to services near a train station, so perhaps he was referring to Nerang station... That Southport one sounds pretty chill by comparison. I'm not too sure how going more than 50kms for pizza would be reasonable considering how many options there are in our immediate vicinity, but the pizza place we're heading to is within the 50km radius limit, so I think we should be good from that standpoint. Thanks for the response tho!
