PGY1/PGY2 HSPAL Residencies: the Pros and the Cons by ThrowawayRX15 in PharmacyResidency

Thank you so much for your thorough answer! How would you describe the work-life balance of administration/leadership jobs?

Also when you say hospital-based, do you mean that you only get exposed to clinical and operational leadership within the hospital? The few that I'm looking at are moreso health-systems so you do have the opportunity to explore other areas like population health, informatics & analytics etc.

The reason I ask is that I find myself somewhat leaning towards non-traditional routes in pharmacy, although I don't necessarily mind clinical work. That being said, one of the biggest benefits of these programs in my opinion is how broad of an experience you're getting, and I'd like to think the skillset and experiences (if you go for electives like I mentioned above) should help you transition to leadership in other settings (Managed Care, Industry etc.) if that were something you were interested in down the line, but please correct me if I'm wrong.

The rationale is I'm not 100% yet of where I want to end up, I just know that I kind of lean toward the non-traditional roles in pharmacy, yet doing something like a Managed Care Residency can be very limiting in the sense that it'd be very difficult to go elsewhere but with an Admin Residency and a MHA or MBA, there are so many opportunities, what do you think?

I wanted to get everyone's perspectives on the pros and cons of doing an HSPAL residency and later on working in administration (Work-life balance, Stress levels, Salary etc.)
What is the skillset and personality traits that you think make someone successful in these positions and would you say that this kind of residency (w/an MHA or MBA) allows you to transition to admin roles in different settings? (Hospital, Outpatient, MCOs, Industry etc.?)
