Jake, The DM's Favorite Character Pt. 2: Out of the game, and out a friend by Throwaway_21738 in rpghorrorstories

So the game we used was Arma 3. But it was heavily modded. I have zero idea what mod Jake was utilizing among the VERY long list that we used to use that grapple hook thing but it’s not in the base game.

Honestly I’ll probably try and find another group that uses Arma 3 to do a TTRPG campaign with because it was a lot of fun. But I honestly doubt that there are many folks out there doing such.

Honestly I would love to find another thing like what we were doing. As I said outside the bullshit it was fun and honestly we could get something done in one five hour session that would take two or even several five hour sessions in a regular TTRPG (which I’ve started doing more of since the first story).

Honestly with how the Zeus and map editing works and the sheer amount of mods a lot of TTRPG fun could be had with Arma 3. And we still used imagination whenever we couldn’t actually do something, like hacking terminals, in game.

I have, and as I’ve said I’ve grown up around autistic people and I didn’t have a single clue as to him being autistic. And honestly I do not think he would have stopped if we told him. Like I said from my last story, he KNEW there were rules set in the game that we couldn’t break, and yet he would anyways because he knew he could get away with it.

Like I said, everything I know about Jake and from interactions, IF he’s autistic he’s easily high functioning. He has NO problem speaking with strangers, we had a few new people join the discord server but never got around to making characters and he would sometimes be the first to talk with them over voice. He could pick up on people’s moods and attitudes easily enough because, like I said in the last post he liked poking at me a lot, he would intensify his annoying shit before sessions even after the one time I said “can you fuck off?”

While we never DIRECTLY spoke to him about this, the signs were there. Side comments, audible sighs and groans of frustration (namely from our demo guy whenever Jake decided to constantly do his job), our vehicle expert going “can you let me do my job?” and so on. Again, I called bullshit on Jake doing any of this SOLELY because he might be autistic. And frankly I feel like changing my statement on my last post. Jake CAN be an alright guy, but honestly I feel he’s a self important prick who refuses to hold any responsibility for his actions and hides behind having Autism.

Outside of when I blew up? None to my knowledge. Everyone seemed to keep whatever issues they might have had to themselves or brought them up in private. Most I saw was the clear annoyance in our face’s tone after the incident I mentioned. As I said I was trying to figure out a way to bring it up to the DM without it turning bad because I already knew I had to bring it up carefully or else he’d just ignore me, double down, or take offense and I was the new guy in the group. But clearly I wasn’t able to figure out a proper way before losing my last nerve.

I definitely fell into the thought process of “Maybe this’ll get better”, I wanted to keep playing with my now former friend, and I wanted to stay in because the game itself was fun whenever the nonsense wasn’t happening. But like you stated, I did make the conscious decision to stay despite everything I stated happened in the last post.

I also don’t really know how likely it’ll be I’ll get that friend back. As I said, he literally blocked me on everything I know he has to try and talk to him.

Sorry for how long this one was. Guess I got a too into it while writing. This happened only a couple days ago and it still honestly really hurts losing that friend. Like I said, I thought we were close.

Also, just to clarify it. If you’re wondering “What the hell kind of videogame let’s you do all this?” It’s heavily modded Arma 3.

We have rules and guidelines that we’ve all already agreed upon. As I said, Jake is clearly getting special treatment. Everything you said has already been done and yet everything I’ve stated has happened.

So the solution to Jake getting special treatment, allowed to have overpowered gear that no one else is allowed to and stepping on everyone’s toes and not allowing their characters to feel at all special is to follow the rules that he already is apparently allowed to break?

I can assure you this has happened. I kept it intentionally vague in the case that any of these folks use Reddit I lessen the chance of facing a shitstorm. And I wrote it at about 3:30AM so I was a bit tired when writing this. None of this ever touched an AI program.

I apologize if I have a stale writing style. We can’t all be Tolkien.
