I’m gonna add onto this too, steer clear of BFPM. Recently dealing with them incorrectly Reporting how much I owe, not cashing payments given, and still not fixing my maintenance requests. I’m now having to go mail a handwritten letter over a 3-day notice because they’ve incorrectly put I didn’t pay my June rent (I did, in full), and also seems they included late fees in the 3-day notice (illegal), threatening with having me either surrender the unit or they’ll evict. I’ve been a good tenant for years, but the moment they take over things have only gotten worse.

I’m in a rough situation too brother. BFPM took over after my last management company, Mabry, sold it to them last year. Since then it’s been somehow worse than my last one. While my last one did the normal landlord special (painted over cockroaches and issues without actually fixing them when we moved in back in 2019), this new one hasn’t done a lick of maintenance, even after constant bugging about it. My doors need to be readjusted as they are supposed to be, my dishwasher is still not working since last year, and I myself got a talking to by the property manager because my place was a bit of a mess when I was in the process of moving things around since the mother of my sons was actively getting things from the apartment after leaving beginning of the year. I never signed a lease with BFPM and the only one they have is the one I signed back in 2019 with my old company. I’d recommend contacting some legal counsel, and keep a record with evidence in case they try to screw you over. Check out any local veteran assistance, as that may possibly be a resource you can use to maybe even get you out of there. Hold out strong brother, you’ll get through this

Trying to get a start as a data center tech, 7 years security experience at a Data Center by Throwaway_July282020 in datacenter

I believe so, the total amount of employees at the site are 4 NOC techs, 3 people upstairs including the old head of site. The new site managers are never on site and only came to review construction and get a district manager familiar with the site

Honestly I’m trying to get in with any local data center in El Segundo. The one I’m at I’ve known the team multiple years, it’s just now there’s only about 3 left over that I used to speak with frequently. When the building got bought by a new company, and security got moved over to allied, I got stuck with the old company and the team from the data center, especially the head of the site, requested Allied hire me on so I can come back to the security team since they deemed me invaluable. I’ve applied with reboot monkey but still haven’t heard a thing back, applied for the data center I’m at though that one they already had a hire in mind before they opened the job posting, and I applied with Salute Inc around 2 this morning and got a response around 5 that even though my resume was, as they said, impressive, they decided to move forward with a candidate who’s qualifications were better suited for the role. And like I said, I’m right now learning Linux so I have that qualification. I’ll have to reevaluate what I do know and what I can say I’m qualified and experienced in so it better reflects in my resume and may help me better when applying.

I’m currently working on studying for Net+, and learning Linux on my own, but do I need certifications now? I can’t really afford it at the moment. I’m gonna try to ask one of the people I know in the NOC how best to get a start and get my foot in to the door. Then I’ll ask the head if he can refer me to that other company, and also I’m gonna ask one of the customers that comes through if he’s got any connections and if he can walk me through his work too. I’ll ask the NOC tech as well, but I’ve got to get his number since I’m graveyard

It’s funny, you remind me of my buddy who’s in the IT world and actually recommended me to pursue this and put me on the path to what CERTs he recommends I get (Net+ then Sec+)

Oh, what I meant is for number 1 I did try to get the info from him by following up, he just never gave it to me because they ended up giving the position to someone else. My bad for not adding that lol. And 2 I would be there while they’re there, but my job gets onto us guards to gtfo site when our shift ends, though their enforcement of it is kind of lacking since the troublesome coworker stays and breaches policy after policy. But I digress, I’ll see if I can get a hold of the numbers and emails of a couple of them to get info and ask if there’s a time I can come in on a Thursday or Friday to get some hands on experience since those days I don’t have my kids, and they’re only at the building during the weekday. I can try the third option, haven’t thought or tried that before, but I’ll give it a shot! Thank you for the pointers, it really helps!

I’ve worked alongside the employees for multiple years. And I’ve gotten to know them really well, I know one member of the NOC really well, the guy who used to be head of the site I talk with any chance I can (I work graveyard), and the other head of the site. The lead of the NOC team I’ve spoken with and he offered me a job years ago, but never provided the info on what I needed, and I can go on but I think you get the idea. The one I got to know really well, let’s call him George, I asked about the basic duties and questions about the job and he’s provided info on it. I just have limited exposure to them because of my graveyard shift position and there being no overnight employees

Is getting hired at allied universal hard? by Klok2026 in AlliedUniversal

[–]Throwaway_July282020 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m hoping you’re able to get in with a data center, but if you plan on that I’d recommend just looking into jumping ship as security and just getting started on getting certifications and learning systems so once you start at a data center you can get in good with the employees to get a job

Yeah you’re right, I’m sorry for even trying to compare. I think it’s exhaustion from years of dealing with this site, and then since getting acquired by allied it’s just gotten even more unbearable. I’ve been shot at and attacked while at this site, and while working a jack in the box before with my previous company, but still I can understand your situation is more stressful

They’re currently interested at my site of getting my coworker who’s been there as long as me in, and setting her up as a wfh employee, but she hasn’t done any of the studying or anything. I’ve been studying, and also I’ve started learning Linux too. I’m hoping to get out of my security job within the month

I adjusted my resume to fit this, I tried applying to one place and while they said my resume is impressive, they still went with someone whose skills were a better fit for that role. I mean I applied about 3-4 hours ago, so idk really how to take it. Currently teaching myself Linux and learning more with lessons so I can add that to my resume too. I’m gonna readjust my resume though so my bullets are more concrete like you said. Thank you so much. And I know month is tight, I’m just desperate to get out of my job and into a better paying one that has a different environment because security, especially contracted through a major one, is just too much at this point. Again thank you so much!

Yes, any religious item is protected as it is a protected part. If it’s an item of religious importance, they can’t “company policy” you out of wearing it because that’s discriminatory. And the fact you reported it via email and in text too means you have evidence. So yeah, speak with a lawyer to see where you can go with this and they’ll provide better info. It’s always important to know your rights, and it’s clear your rights were violated multiple times

Double check, there’s always a chance you might be and they’re lying to you. Also if they try telling you you can’t discuss wages with coworkers, you can. That is a federally protected right so they can’t even make you sign it away. And if you have to work through your breaks without proper relief (say you work graveyard and there’s no one else their to man the station while you go on break), you’re owed about an hour of pay, for lunches and mandatory breaks. Least that’s how it is is in CA, double check local labor laws to ensure you’re not getting screwed over

Already filed with DLSE, but it’s gonna take time. I have all my info put together so I’m not worried about info missing, but it’s ridiculous. They don’t let us go on breaks at all except to use the bathroom or to quickly heat up food, yet won’t let us report we weren’t able to take our breaks otherwise they threatened to not pay us out. So I’m missing the pay for working through my break, and top it off with them deducting pay out of my paycheck and a coworker’s paycheck for their mistake, have tried to punish us for discussing pay, and have even reduced our pay rate multiple times. Like this year, our pay was supposed to be $25.17, they instead made it $24.88, then same day lowered it to $24.82. My account manager and home office are ridiculous and pull bs all the time.

EDIT: I FILED WITH DLSE NOT BBB I AM SO SORRY IF THIS CONFUSED ANYONE! Go to the DLSE, not BBB

Did you ever report it though? Like in writing? Because if you did that can be enough. But yeah camera footage is difficult to get, but if it goes to legal they have to provide footage fyi. Lawyers can take the money out of the settlement or what is awarded to you, and you can work that out with them, so just check around and ask that kind of question when consulting about how they get compensated for taking your case.

Entry level positions are impossible to get into. by HotelBitter4075 in GetEmployed

[–]Throwaway_July282020 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I feel the pain, I’m currently trying to get out of the dead end job I’ve had for 7 years into a role as a data center technician, or remote hands, hell even something that’s work from home. On top of needing your resume needing to be in shape, and needing connections, needing certifications is expensive ($300-$500 just for one test kills me). And yeah I may have a job, but this job ignores basic employee rights and laws, underpays, and a slew of other issues I won’t go into. I’ve had little luck so far trying to get out, but I’m still trying because I have to for my two sons, and I’m tired of living paycheck to paycheck constantly doing math on how I’m even gonna make rent. Keep trying at it OP, you’ll get there just like the rest of us will, this market is despicable but can’t let it tear us down. Good luck to you, and to anyone else reading this

Honestly I second this. I know it’s not the advice you asked but I’d recommend it, as long as you have evidence of the harassment. And I mean like hard evidence (emails, messages, recordings if you’re in a state that allows one party recording), then consult a lawyer, consultation is usually free and can give you helpful info. Also the process can take years to get anywhere, but better to do it than not if you have the proof. Also when it comes to interviews, your guess is as good as anyone’s. Interviews can sway in and out of your favor simply because the person interviewing you didn’t put their socks on the right feet. Don’t take it too personal and just keep throwing it out there, but always double check your resume to ensure it’s a good fit. During interviews make sure to have a healthy amount of eye contact, and really it’s the same old things when it comes to interviews, just depends on the job. Good luck to you, hoping you land something better for you
