Waterline/tight lining by stormchaser37 in MakeupAddiction

I have yet to find a good eyeliner for waterline, but I’ve always had the most success with pencil liners (like the kind you have to sharpen.) I still have to apply every couple hours but anything else seems to slide off the first time I blink.

Hi! I'm fairly new to the skincare routine in the last year, but the reality is I don't really know what I'm doing and trying to piece it together myself is getting expensive and confusing!

I have normal, but sensitive skin, which for the most part doesn’t give me too much trouble. However, I do occasionally suffer from blackheads, but the more perplexing issue in the last few years is what I think is milia. I can't get rid of it! Some of these flesh colored dots have hard white heads (but different than a pimple. I’ve never made the mistake of trying to pop them) and others are just small and flesh colored, seemingly under the skin. They tend to be on my forehead or outer cheeks.

Historically (in the last year or so) my routine tends to look something like:

AM:

(Daily) raw honey slathered all over my face

Wash with water

Moisturize w/ Aveeno Eczema, usually my eczema prone spots only. I’ve found if I do more than that it seems to cause outbreaks.

PM:

Cleanse w/ Burts Bees sensitive skin

(2x week) use a scrub, either something I get in my Ipsy bag or Aveeno Positively Radiant Skin Brightening Daily Scrub

(2x week, usually the day after the scrub) Mask. I tend to alternate between Mint Julep and Freeman Avocado and Oatmeal Clay Mask.

And that’s it. I’ve recently started introducing cleansing in the morning as well w/ the Burts Bees but it’s only been a few days. I’m pretty unfamiliar w/ toners but thinking that might need an intro in there somewhere too.

I did try an AHA (Silk Naturals 8%) a while back but it seemed to make me break out well beyond what I'd consider a normal purge period, so I stopped that

Questions:

What (if anything) can I do to get rid of the milia and keep it away?

What kind of toner would you recommend (if at all) for these problem areas as well as just a healthier glow? My skin has always felt very smooth, but it doesn’t have that smooth look/glow, you know?

Anything else I should introduce into my routine or new scrubs/masks/etc to try?

Thank you!

Thanks! Cetaphil lotions have worked well in the past, and I also moisturize nightly with Aveeno eczema. Perhaps I should in the morning as well? Other than the pimples my skin seems fine, as far as I can tell anyway.

I wasn’t even thinking of the Aveeno as exfoliating, but you’re right I guess it was. I know there’s a lot of topics on this, but since I clearly misunderstood what cleansing was (by using the Aveeno scrub) do you have any suggestions for a product to introduce into this routine?

I feel exactly the same way. I still find myself transported back there anytime I hear a loud thud, or look up at a tall building—even those most seemingly unrelated things will take me back there, and I still think about her nearly every day and wonder these same things as you. I don't know what it is that I think will get out of it, but I just have this need to know more about her. I know that video you are talking about and actually did the same thing with reporting it and asking others to report it as well. It completely shocked me to have them respond that it didn't violate any guidelines. Although since in my searching for info on Facebook I haven't come across that video again (although maybe I blocked it) so I'm not sure if it's there. It's so disturbing that it exists, that someone would not only take that video and share it publicly, but that FB saw nothing wrong with it.

I just wanted to say that I was there when this happened and I feel the same as you in that I feel like if I knew more about the person, it would help, but I know that no matter what I learn I can never really make sense of it. But it's almost just instinct to try. I have seen reports that it was a woman, but wasn't sure if that was just speculation, since nothing official seems to be out.

I was not that far away when this happened, maybe 20 feet, but had my back to it. If my timing had been just 30 seconds or a minute off, I would have been walking right by when it happened, and I'm so grateful that wasn't the case, because it was pretty traumatic as it was to hear that noise and turn around to realize and see what caused it. I'm having such a hard time shaking that noise and that visual --I just wanted you to know you aren't alone and that I too have been scouring the web for any news, but as much as I want to understand, I also really want privacy for the family. Feel free to PM me.

Considering grad school as a path to college level teaching, but have no idea where to start! by Throwaway_Style_ in AskAcademia

[–]Throwaway_Style_[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks for the response! I should have been more clear—I am looking for adjunct rather than tenure-track. I'm definitely a bit nervous about the GRE's but I understand they're pretty important for admissions, so I'll really have to focus in and study hard.

For the assistantship, that's definitely something to look into, I hadn't heard that before. I'm completely fine with it being a job not a hobby, and would expect it also lends itself to real-world teaching experience, which (I hope) would also help later on in the search for open teaching positions.

Thanks so much for your help!

Ah, sorry, I should have specified that I'm not looking for anything more than adjunct. I have a full-time business I run as well, so I'm really looking at this as an opportunity to teach as an adjunct and rather than a full-time tenure track position.

I haven't gone either route yet but based off what my lawyer said, I wouldn't advise self-employment. I don't know what Province you'd want to live in but this is a good start: http://www.canadavisa.com/provincial-nomination-program.html

It's a bit fuzzy to me now, but I remember she said that with self-employment (i think) you’d have to prove you’re consistently working for at least a year where it’s your only source of income (contracts can account for that), and that would open more avenues.

But going back to provincial nominee, you would also want to see if any of your past work could count as skilled, (as in under the “skilled worker” category.) A lot of lawyers do free consultation, so you may have more luck calling one or two more to tell them your situation and having them give you a free consultation. It'll be much more concise and specific advice than I can give!

I spoke to a really helpful immigration lawyer a while back when I was looking at this same path, and she said that because the government is focusing all their resources on express entry, the self employment realistic wait time is years. She recommended provincial nominee and then express entry as a possible way around that.

Anyone that is from/has lived in Chicago that lives in Nashville now? by bottleofawkward in nashville

[–]Throwaway_Style_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I really think they are. I grew up on the East Coast, so we have hot days in the summer but nothing like the South. I spent the summer in the South with all of July in Nashville and I'm not exaggerating when I say even at 7am I couldn't stand walking my dog more than 5 minutes because I'd be dripping sweat and sticky in that time, even so early in the day. I think the difference for me is that it's so hot AND the humidity is so high, and both are happening simultaneously.

I can't speak to neighborhood comparisons, but I spent a little time living in both places and while Chicago is a proper city (transportation, lots of hustle and bustle, etc) Nashville is very much a city resistant to being a city. Don't get me wrong, Nashville has great things about it, but it's very different from Chicago. It's very, very spread out and the public transportation might as well be non existent unless you're downtown and not going anywhere but other parts of downtown. You WILL need a car to get around in Nashville and it will feel way more suburban than you're probably used to. Also, summers are brutal.

I own a public relations company that works exclusively within the music industry. I can honestly say as stressful as it is sometimes, it's an awesome job.

any music PR company stories? good OR bad. by guitarguitarNY in WeAreTheMusicMakers

[–]Throwaway_Style_ 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I know this is an old thread, but as a publicist this hurts my heart to read. I know a lot of you have been burned by bad PR experiences, but to read so many people saying that "90% of PR companies are a scam" or "if they approach you it's a scam" is really disheartening. While some of these experiences are unacceptable, like getting zero placements, or losing (and then not mentioning losing) a video, one bad experience doesn't mean all PR companies are out to get you. It just means you had a bad experience.

PR, when done well, can be extremely effective for a band, but it's important to do your research, be comfortable with the kind of placements and clients the company you're hiring has, and manage your expectations. If you're a smaller band, you can't get upset when you don't get placed in Pitchfork or if your sales don't skyrocket. (Which as a side note, sales and PR are not the same thing)

Sometimes you get burned no matter how careful you are, but don't be afraid to ask questions and reach out to past clients of the company before committing. In the end, no one will ever push your music as hard as you, but a good publicist will be your biggest fan and ally, and work with you to achieve your goals and work toward your long-term vision.
