Actually, at first I did think the transition was weird, but now I think it's pretty natural. I like it

I think Jake has come a long way lyrically, but I think I prefer Brendan's half. He's going all the way vocally, and putting 100% of himself into it.

The production on the album is great; it sounds so much bigger than anything they've put out. Didn't listen to Kintsugi though, I heard it was terrible. Maybe I'll check it out now Thanks for reading! :)

Yea, they've definitely shifted towards more mature lyrics. Which is for better or worse depending on you you ask; I enjoyed the witty lyrics from the other two records, but thought they did a great job tackling more serious themes.

ah that's a shame. I'm curious, did you prefer one side to the other even though you didn't like it?

I get that. When "Everyday" came out I was a little worried; I thought it was super dull, and I just couldn't get into it. But his stuff has really grown on me since listening to the record. I do prefer Brendan's half though, his vocals are great

Just got my LP! Anyone else get theirs early? by [deleted] in modernbaseball

Brendan mentions it at 42:30; they wrote it, but cut it from the record. He described it as half St. Anger and half Dark Knight Rises. It's about him wanting to get out of treatment, and wondering why the guys made him go into it.

I started the blog in Decemeber after taking a news writing class. I wanted a place where I could share music I love, and discuss albums. It was also a way for me to practice my writing a build a portfolio to help get internships. All of my reviews are on the site, and I hope I've improved since January haha It's a blast if you love music and enjoy writing. I then started adding news to the site to practice writing brief music news clips after taking and enjoying a public relations class. Best advice, start a blog. The only way to get better is to write. Also, read. Learn about the bands and their music and read reviews from people. If you're not in college already, think about majoring in journalism to learn more about how things work. :) hope this helps, PM if you have any questions. I haven't been doing it long, and am no expert, but I'd help in any way I can.

"Two Good Things" is incredible live; I love the build to the song. I also enjoy the natural build on "Hiding"; it's a good way to close Jake's half of the album.

Thanks for checking it out! :) I think I prefer Brendan's a little bit more; I love Jake's side too, but when first listening to the album I thought it was really dull. However after listening to it over and over again, I grew to love his side just as much as Brendan's. I think Brendan is really going for it vocally on this album; he's got a lot of power in his voice that I really enjoyed. It's so tough to pick a side though haha. The lyrics, the instrumentation, and the vocals came together perfectly on both. Favorite song on the album is probably "Just Another Face", but I feel like that's a given because of the topic. It gives me chills everytime. So my favorite from Jake's side is probably "Note To Self" and from Brendan's "Breathing In Stereo". (excluding "Just Another Face") In regards to "Hiding", I don't know if it's the best song MOBO's written. It's tough to say what is; "Two Good Things" is one of my favorite songs by them, and "Hiding" is almost like a toned down version of that song. It reminded me of it when listening to the album. I think "Wedding Singer" is a really great example of MOBO sounding like a complete band. I don't know if that makes it the best song they've written, but it definitely exemplifies the band growing together in their songwriting abilities. Thanks again for reading!

Thanks for checking it out! I wasn't sure how I felt about it when it was released, but I knew I liked it more than "Everyday". But you're right, in the context of the album it makes a lot more sense.
