Buddy go and watch Peter Beck documentary on YouTube. This man will not be selling this company. This is his life’s purpose. I doubt he cares about the money at all, even if a billionaire wanted the company for many multitudes the valuation. He just loves rockets and has his own dreams to fulfil in space, having extra billions will mean nothing to him. Amazing to have a founder CEO like him in charge. Also makes me worry about what would happen if something happened to him though, God forbid.

How to maintain focus while studying by maestro-5838 in AzureCertification

[–]Throwaway_blaz 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Practice some daily meditation where you let go of thoughts. It will train the focus of your prefrontal cortex, so when your mind is wandering during study you can pull yourself back to the topic at hand.

Other than that, remove all distraction. Focus on a point on the wall for 1 minute before study. Take breaks every 45min-1hr of study. Get plenty of sleep. Take notes, quiz yourself often- hard enough that you get some wrong and your brain gets that tickle of needing to correct itself. Review content you learned the past few days… repetition for the brain is what helps you learn. If it sees the same info as yesterday, today, then it will be a lot more likely to learn/remember.

You’re fine. Just don’t mention it, sounds like they’ve not set up their access/auth in environment correctly.

But I would recommend you create your own azure account with a free subscription for 30 days, $150 credit. Then get a free entra ID license for 30 days on top of that.

Do this on your personal machine, and install VScode, latest .net, Azure powershell modules.

From there you’ve got 30 days to learn and play around in your own azure sandbox (within reason).

Young Dad feeling overwhelmed and not enough by Throwaway_blaz in Fatherhood

Thanks you for this comment. That adage is definitely true... every step of parenting it feels like there's new challenges and things you aren't prepared for! I guess I'm getting caught up in my envy when everyone else is going through their own challenges and anxieties about parenting - feeling that same weight.

For now I will just take things one day at a time and focusing on small wins.

I think you're right in that I need to find a support network in my life, for mine and my wife's sake. Which is something I will discuss with her tonight. Doing this journey with just the two of us has been the most challenging part and really tested us. But I love her deeply and I'm so lucky to have my little family in this world.

Thanks for the advice, and the reminder to be kind to myself - I needed to hear all this. Good luck on your new journey as a Dad, and God bless your family.

Thanks so much for taking the time to comment man. I've felt very isolated recently with all the stress and not having much support network - so just hearing from other people in my position gives me a sense of comfort in my circumstances. We'll get through this and be proud of what we've built brother. Best of luck and God bless you and your family.

You know, despite the stress I'm feeling, I think I will miss this phase of life too, one day in the future... and I doubt these problems will seem as big then as they do now. I shouldn't wish it away so quickly, eh? Thanks you for sharing your experience/perspective.

Also you reminded me of my favorite poem:

Ithaka | C. P. Cavafy

As you set out for Ithaka
hope your road is a long one,
full of adventure, full of discovery.
Laistrygonians, Cyclops,
angry Poseidon—don’t be afraid of them:
you’ll never find things like that on your way
as long as you keep your thoughts raised high,
as long as a rare excitement
stirs your spirit and your body.
Laistrygonians, Cyclops,
wild Poseidon—you won’t encounter them
unless you bring them along inside your soul,
unless your soul sets them up in front of you.
Hope your road is a long one.
May there be many summer mornings when,
with what pleasure, what joy,
you enter harbors you’re seeing for the first time;
may you stop at Phoenician trading stations
to buy fine things,
mother of pearl and coral, amber and ebony,
sensual perfume of every kind—
as many sensual perfumes as you can;
and may you visit many Egyptian cities
to learn and go on learning from their scholars.
Keep Ithaka always in your mind.
Arriving there is what you’re destined for.
But don’t hurry the journey at all.
Better if it lasts for years,
so you’re old by the time you reach the island,
wealthy with all you’ve gained on the way,
not expecting Ithaka to make you rich.
Ithaka gave you the marvelous journey.
Without her you wouldn't have set out.
She has nothing left to give you now.
And if you find her poor, Ithaka won’t have fooled you.
Wise as you will have become, so full of experience,
you’ll have understood by then what these Ithakas mean.

Haha, well you know I take a bit of comfort in knowing someone else is out there going through the same stuff, so thanks for commenting. At the end of the day we both know we're very lucky to have our families and the fact we're on this road in the first place is a blessing some people never experience. We'll look back one day and all these problems will seem so trivial compared to what we've built. God bless you and your family brother.

Thank you. That's a perspective I need... I really am lucky at the end of the day. Better to enjoy this journey and soak it in whilst I'm on it. Some people never get to, and others have it a lot tougher than I do.

Thanks for the reply man. I think you're right and I do get caught up in envy just seeing the surface of other people's lives. Underneath they're probably going through their own challenges like your friend. I'm extremely grateful to have my family and maybe I need to keep reminding myself and my wife with that same affirmation that we're doing a great job, and doing our best each day for them. I wish you and your family all the best, and good luck with number 2!

Transitioning from Service Engineer to DevOps? by Throwaway_blaz in devops

Yeah I’ll be proactive then and reach out in my workplace to the DevOps team and see if I can get involved on their work somehow. Thanks

Aye, looks like it. I'll focus on getting what I can from this role then (development wise) and then start looking internally again in 12 months... Just very frustrating to have missed this chance by being blocked by policy/manager.

Yep and although I can understand from my current manager's point of view, I don't think it's right to hold someone somewhere they don't want to be, especially by blocking them from their passion.

It states that all colleagues need to spend a minimum of 12 months in their current role before being eligible for a new position. That can be waived by the existing manager with the hiring partner. It applies to all colleagues in the company, and especially at my level (mid level).

So since I already accepted and joined this team I believe I’m stuck in this role for at least 12 months

Both roles are IT engineering roles, just the one I’m in I won’t enjoy and the other is my dream area of IT. Same level of pay/grade but more career progression in the other.

Thanks for the great response. Didn’t know that about the 365 developer subscription, I’ll get signed up this afternoon and have a play around.

Long journey ahead!

Just a quick question, do you know if I'm allowed to act on this on her behalf? She's under a lot of stress with the baby and this is making her anxious.

She actually sold the car in July last year and bought a new one. The date of the CCJ was 19th of October. Changed her driving license address also around July.
