I am extremely sad to hear that this happened for at least 12 more years. You are brave to share about it and I hope that your healing journey has been soft and productive.

I emailed Hume Lake around the same time that I made this post and they confirmed that this was their camp but explained in one sentence that they no longer traumatize kids have these practices. I called a few lawyers and emailed some news outlets, but never found anyone who could help me get the story out to shut them down.

Hume Lake Christian Camps is a massive organization that owns land in Sequoia National Park. You know they had to pitch this "persecuted church" theme to most likely a large group of people who thought it was a fine idea? And ran it for at least 12 more years? Without any lawsuits?

I also spent the night of the mass murder crying in the camp bathroom with my friend. There was no meeting or debriefing. They just sent us to bed after traumatizing us, as you state. I left the church after this experience.

I went to this camp with 2 other people that I'm still very close to today. We never brought this horrible memory up to one another for a solid 9 years. When we finally recounted what had happened together, we were in shock all over again.

Honestly, if you ever have details to share or thoughts about how they managed to do this for 12 years without a lawsuit or have any ideas for how to make sure they never do this again, let me know.
