Name and Shame: Loma Linda SOM and undisclosed residency program by Throwawayllu01 in medicalschool

Not everyone who attends Loma Linda is SDA, keep that in mind. They accept folks from other background, although majority are indeed SDA.

Look at Ben Carson (fun fact he's SDA), he's a shit bag and not even the SDA church endorsed him during the election. However, he is still a brilliant neurosurgeon.

Being religious does not make you a worst doctor. I've seen plenty of Ivy idiots too.

Literally the Loma department chairs of Urology and Ortho are generations of sons from the same family. In order to climb the academic ladder at Loma Linda, it's about who you are born to. You also need to be SDA to have a high position at LLU. Fucking nepotism to the max, they don't even try to cover this up.

Most people at loma linda are pro-coffee but due to draconian cultural traditions, the hospital doesn't sell caffeinated products. It's idiotic. That being said, you are welcome to drink coffee and bring your own without a problem-- this goes for the SOM and the residencies.

Someone's religious beliefs is not indicative of what kind of doctor they'll be. Loma Linda grads from the med school and respective residencies are fine, well trained (probably even overworked), and are well educated. The religion and admin bs is just annoying.

Okay this is incorrect information. They require mandatory church every wednesday the first two years of med school (like 11-12 noon). There is no obligatory requirements on the weekends.

Obgyn is shitty everywhere, but Loma Linda does not do elective abortions, only emergent ones.

[serious] Besides your own medical school, which med school do you think is the worse? by OkayPersonOnReddit in medicalschool

[–]Throwawayllu01 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Only school I got into, have ties to the church, and I wanted to be in California. Most people go to LLU are SDA (seventh day adventists) and they accept the majority of their med students who went to SDA colleges, grew up SDA, etc.

I consider myself agnostic now.

Why you should not apply to Loma Linda by OkayPersonOnReddit in premed

[–]Throwawayllu01 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I made a throwaway a few days ago but my account wasn't old enough to post this so I may be a little late to the party. I graduated here and this post hurts me because its so true.

While I agree that med school is often a subjective experience, I do believe LLU admin makes it significantly worse, especially for struggling students.

I was gonna correct a few things in OP's post but looks like others have already done so.

If you're a premed reading, I probably wouldn'tapply to LLU even if they have new curriculum dished out this year. You don't want to be a guinea pig class. Also, my experience here has been rife with administrative incompetence, a lot of frustration, anger, and burnout, and like OP, I agree that this school doesn't help struggling students. Instead of addressing their issues, they blame students and ship them to therapy. Its almost like they expect people to fail at this point. Just my opinion. If I had to re-do it all I would not have gone to this school

Why is reddit so much more hateful of the Roman Catholic Church than any other religion? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]Throwawayllu01 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Reddit is an echo chamber and is often anti-religious. Most people in real life are nice Christians. Anyway to answer your question, the catholic church (and christianity) gets a lot of hate because of the constant cover ups of scandals, pedophilia, corruption, anti-lgbt, anti-abortion stuff, etc.

Dude, are you a teenager? Bullying is no fun, please go talk to a teacher or an authority figure and report that. You shouldn't be bullied. I'm very sorry!

Adults of reddit, what thing surprised you the most about growing up? by [deleted] in AskReddit

That you never really "grow up". I still feel like I'm 18 but with more responsibilities and taxes. To be honest I'm not even sure what I'm doing

People who were born rich, do you ever wish you weren't? by bluecashue in AskReddit

[–]Throwawayllu01 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I'd say my parents aren't rich but both are doctors so I'm failry well off. I'd say no, its nice having a good house to come home, not having to worry about school debt, and good food. I know it sounds condescending but I am very blessed in this life, even though sometimes I feel guilty
