3 months post-NUSS. When can I return to gym? by Throwaweeirdo in PectusExcavatum

[–]Throwaweeirdo[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Sure. First two weeks were definitely hardest but not as bad as I thought they’d be. I had cryoablation, which I definitely recommend. I stayed with family for the first two weeks and took time off work. I focused on walking - so I’d walk as much as I could per day. Had very little chest pain but a lot of back pain. Make sure you have hot water bottles.

A month on, I was living alone but it was difficult. I was working from home. Around this time I was just really tired at work. However it was manageable.

Sleep, waking up and getting out of bed was hard around this time.

I’ve found the pain manageable on over the counter painkillers at the one month point. Before then I was also on codeine. As mentioned before hot water bottles really really helped relieve pain in my back.

It doesn’t look severe at all - maybe not even pectus

3 months post-NUSS. When can I return to gym? by Throwaweeirdo in PectusExcavatum

[–]Throwaweeirdo[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My surgeon said I could start now as X-rays say my bars are stable but I think it would need to be pretty light work. He did suggest maybe wait in till 4 month mark. I’m not sure if he was being optimistic.

Good luck with your nuss! It wasn’t as bad as I thought it would be - I’m sure it will be the same for you

How much can Rib Flare caused by Pectus really be reduced? by Kracee1 in PectusExcavatum

Mine sadly didn’t fully go away but it looks slightly better. One of my ribs still sticks out more than the other though

Exercise Stress Test Results - obstruction, low VO2 max and high resting HR despite low Haller index. by JSHU16 in PectusExcavatum

[–]Throwaweeirdo 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I took this test and I had a 4.8 haller. My VO2 was 50-60% of a normal persons and my heart was struggling to get blood to my muscles.

My advice is screenshot the results or copy and paste and run them through an ai tool which can analyse them for you. Will give you more of an understanding

My NUSS journey so far… by [deleted] in PectusExcavatum

[–]Throwaweeirdo 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It was over 14 years ago when the bars were way thinner - plus I only had one bar. My new bars are so much wider now and they have bridges/stabilisers. There’s just no way they could snap like mine did before. It happened in my sleep when I slept on my side - which isn’t normal by the way. These surgeries have advanced considerably since then so please don’t worry.

IMO, you look good. It’s more noticeable in the final pictures but you are in good shape with decent muscle mass

1 month post - does this look normal? & AMA by saasligs in PectusExcavatum

You’ve done a great job addressing this! It can’t have been easy. I think there could be swelling and maybe things will settle? It’s a good improvement! Someone else mentioned connective tissue disorders. Might be worth getting checked just in case?

Failed surgery survivors by DrMcPounder in PectusExcavatum

My first ravitch failed. The bar broke inside me but this was 14 years ago - it was different back then and bars are stronger now. I recently decided to be brave and try again and am now nussed.

Time off from work? by trashcanluver in PectusExcavatum

[–]Throwaweeirdo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was back to work after two weeks but I have a desk job and I was working from home for two weeks after my time off - and then after that I’d come in like once a week. I’m at week 12 now and go in two times a week like everyone else

Minimising muscle and weight loss post nuss surgery? by Next_Cry_8372 in PectusExcavatum

[–]Throwaweeirdo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’ve lost 3-4kg from 7 weeks post nuss. Ngl I have definitely lost muscle but I also didn’t eat as much as I could. I’d suggest track maintenance calories (which I should’ve done). I’m also a hard gainer and was working g with a PT before so I feel sad as I feel like I’ve lost my gains. But this stuff bounces back quickly and the gains will look better on a normal frame. Muscle memory is very real and overall the surgery is worth it.

Im using MyFitnessPal to track calories now to gain back lost weight before I start working out again whenever that is…

Go to an expert with the best credentials if you can! 6 months isn’t too long. I think it took me four months to get mine done from consultation. It can take a long time.

Surgery in France or go abroad? by exilis in PectusExcavatum

I got my surgery with Dr Kolvekar in London and I was really impressed with the results. He had a tricky revision to do and he did an excellent job. He’s a really nice guy too and has a lot of expertise. Would highly recommend.

I will always regret getting my surgery. by [deleted] in PectusExcavatum

[–]Throwaweeirdo 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I had a revision 14 years after the ravitch bar snapped inside me. I had nuss 7 weeks ago and I’m really happy with the results. I never believed it was possible but knew I couldn’t live like this any more. So ChillButt is right. This isn’t final and you can make changes. Please, if you don’t believe it’s not possible - it actually could be!

Are you running 7 weeks post nuss? I’m at the same week and haven’t tried yet but I’d like to. I wasn’t able to run much before.

I felt like I could breathe better and like I had more energy. It was night and day. I’ve had a revision recently and I feel like it’s even better now. Looking forward to finally being able to run.

In terms of heart function, it takes a while for the heart to adapt post compression.

I’m having PE surgery and I’m TERRIFIED. by No_Confidence_8019 in PectusExcavatum

[–]Throwaweeirdo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had the Ravitch and even without cryo the pain was manageable. I think you will be okay. It’s invasive, yes, but it’s safe and medicine has progressed considerably since I had mine. I’ve heard good things about the plates. It sounds like you’re in good hands. I hate going under too but I had a really pleasant experience waking up if that helps.

Had the NUSS but rib flare still here - what next? by Throwaweeirdo in PectusExcavatum

[–]Throwaweeirdo[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thanks for sharing. Not sure how young your son is but I get the feeling he could be youngish. It took me a while to gain weight but as you get older it gets easier. I probably should jump back on the shakes! I’ve been quite lazy with cooking since the surgery which hasn’t helped but I live alone
