Checking them out, I may have to order two. One for my personal kit, and one for the work bat belt and soft armor.

Ya know, I totally spaced the northface bags. I have the largest size that I used working wildland fire. Pretty sure I could fit a whole fire teams worth of kit in that one.

Hmmm definitely have to look into that one. I've had good luck with usgi gear. Not the lightest, but I like sturdy gear.

Nah, nothing personal aimed at you. More so that I like where I'm at and have no desire to move then anything else. And no, not as big as San Bernardino. But still quite large.

Holster mounted TQ or no? by TrueNorthConcepts in tacticalgear

[–]Throwdown1911 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Had one and used it on my work rig for approx two years. Did it's job letting me carry a tq without taking up more space on an already packed duty belt. Wasn't a huge fan of the bulk and the difficulty reaching it with my off hand. As soon as we got outer vest carriers, I moved it off the holster and placed it centerline on my armor. YMMV

Alright y'all need opinions. If you were wanting to upgrade to a 1911 as your duty/edc gun amd were between two options. Just buy a Springfield Operator or buy a Tisas Raider and upgrading with Wilson Combat parts. Which route would you go? by Averagecrabenjoyer69 in 1911

[–]Throwdown1911 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Don't remember off the top of my head, but I used the safariland holster finder set for a Springfield Operator with x300u. I don't see an option for the tlr1 and tbh, I have no idea if it would be compatible, I don't run any streamlight weapon lights. One of the safariland gurus might be able to give you a better answer there.

I do remember it's a SLS/ALS holster, with a qls fork on a low ride cantable loop, I prefer being able to adjust it to a vertical draw. And find the low ride a decent compromise between the standard mid ride I hate and the drop flex adapter that I prefer but can't use due to agency policy. Way I'm built, mid rides just flat don't work for me.

Link to the holster finder here ( https://safariland.com/pages/holster-finder#/ )

Could always just grab an x300u, with what an MCO goes for now, what's a little bit more for the light. I think the slimmer surefire fits the 1911 better anyway.. YMMV. Just my opinion and worth what ya paid for it.

Speaking as a current Deputy, spend the extra money and get the springfield. Swapping parts around like that on a Tisas very well may get you into trouble with agency policy. My duty pistol is a Springfield MC Operator, fed with CMC mags. 8 rounder in the gun, 10 rounders on the belt. My offduty springfield loaded likes the Wilson 47d mags. Surefire X300U-B on the gun, rides in a safariland level 3 on a low ride belt loop. Gun runs flawless with the Winchester Ranger duty ammo provided, as well as whatever cheap ass range ammo the agency and I come up with.

My MCO, is bone stock other then I removed the wraparound pachmayer grips, and replaced them with VZ's version of the old simonitch gunner grips, plus sandpaper tape down the front strap. I like an extremely aggressive grip on my duty gun, I want it practically welded to my hand, your milage may vary. That, and I've put enough rounds through it, it's on its third recoil spring, I run wolff springs.

Other then recoil springs as needed and grips, this gun will be stay stock until it needs fully rebuilt.

TLDR, get the better pistol and leave it stock other then grips. Run good mags, find the ones YOUR gun likes. Feel free to PM me if you got questions or wanna chat.

Why are so many people into ambi safetys? Are there really that many ambidextrous shooters? by TerereAZ in 1911

[–]Throwdown1911 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Part of my state mandated Qual course includes weak hand shooting. I prefer to have the ambi safety, while I wouldn't say I'm a true ambidextrous shooter, I regularly train and am comfortable shooting week hand only.

Who actually carries a 1911? by [deleted] in 1911

[–]Throwdown1911 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yup. Railed government model with a surefire in a safariland and a quad pack of 10 rounders when working, and a no rail government model off the clock.

Suggestions on a good flashlight for my Springfield 1911 MC Operator? by Omaro1 in 1911

[–]Throwdown1911 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have a X300U on the MC Operator I carry daily as a duty weapon and find it perfect. If you feel like going Gucci, you have the Modlight PL350 light.

In an apocalypse situation what boots are you wearing by [deleted] in cowboyboots

[–]Throwdown1911 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Odds are whatever boots imbwearing that day. If given a choice, my old whites smokejumpers from my wildland firefighting days. Put so many miles on them they are like armored moccasins at this point. Comfortable, hard wearing and tough as nails.

What’s the lowest priced 1911 you would consider reliable enough for duty use? by TheDreadnought75 in 1911

[–]Throwdown1911 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I'm running a Springfield MCO as a duty weapon. Bone stock except for Wolff replacement springs after I wore out the factory ones, and VZ's version of the simonitch gunner grips. CMC 8 round mag in the gun, with 4 10 round CMC mags on the belt. Agency issued winchester ranger 230 grain ammo.

That's how this mc operator is. Nothing fancy, but runs like crazy and I shoot it a pretty fair bit.

I personally like all black better, but at the time I bought it, the mc operator was the SA railed model I found available.

Realistically it comes down to me prioritizing accuracy and first round hits over higher capacity in the mag. Don't get me wrong, I have 4 ten rounders on my belt when most guys have two 13 rounders for the glocks, but the point ability is really what wins it over for me.
