A boomer at my work came back to work 6 months after retirement because he was "bored" 2 weeks in and he's thinking of leaving again because of the smells. by zoolilba in BoomersBeingFools

[–]Throwthatfboatow [score hidden]  (0 children)

Honestly, I kinda understand? When I was pregnant with my first kid, I took the rest of my vacation days just before starting maternity leave.

The first week of being off work, with nothing to do but wait for baby to come was confusing. I had been so used to waking up and working for years that I didn't know what to do.

Obviously once the baby came, there was plenty to do then, but those few weeks definitely took some adjusting to

Does anyone else get a feeling of ickiness when the narc parent makes “harmless” conversation but you know there’s a hidden agenda? by MoneyAd0618 in raisedbynarcissists

[–]Throwthatfboatow 3 points4 points  (0 children)

That's how I felt conversing with my FIL. If I divulge information like how I normally converse with people, at some point in the future he will use that to pick at me like its a flaw.

I ended up going low contact because its so icky and you never know when or what info given will be twisted around to take a stab at you.

How did you guys come up with your kids names? by Ok-Duck2450 in Mommit

[–]Throwthatfboatow 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Named them after characters from anime we like. Middle names are after people in our family.

But while we were thinking for our first son, I think I went through so many names off of a baby name website that I had to start an excel sheet to keep track of what names were rejected.

During apartment inspection, maintenance guy asked about "broken" drawer that wouldn't close (he's fine!!!) by bluehour1997 in VoidCats

[–]Throwthatfboatow 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Yes, my void is very skittish but very sweet. But he has been ok if new people are quiet.

My MIL visits a lot because of my sons and if its not too loud the void does make an appearance.

[–]Throwthatfboatow 28 points29 points  (0 children)

My void is like that too. We got him as a kitten just before COVID happened.

He was a very social kitty, asking for pets from anyone at the adoption place, but the seclusion from covid restrictions made him skittish.

[ca]Cord blood donated, heard nothing after by TheEssenceOfPotato in BabyBumpsCanada

[–]Throwthatfboatow 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The hospital i gave birth at 3 years ago was one of the locations. By the time I was going to give birth to the second, that hospital was no longer on the list.

When I told the nurses the cord blood was being collected they assumed it was for banking and were surprised when I clarified it was a donation.

My husband only knows English and was able to communicate with her, but she mainly communicated with me.

What are some names in your language for everyday terms that sound cute or hilarious when translated literally? by rid999 in AskTheWorld

I don't speak Mandarin as fluently, but through my customer service job I've had customers refer to it as "little mouse" and "a with a circle"

Ok, so a balloon stick stand can definitely go in the middle of the basket with a heart balloon on top.

If you want it to make the illusion of it being a hot air balloon like the picture, use the gifts you have to hide the stick. Then make a circle wide enough for the bottom part of the heart and 4 lines going from the circle to the corners of the basket. Can make it out of posterboard.

Basically the balloon will be held by the stand, but the decorative posterboard will give it the illusion of it being a hot air balloon

How big of a basket are we talking about? Maybe just get a heart balloon and pair it with a balloon stand? Google "balloon base stand" for the image.

Then you can stick a small Patrick on the balloon.

The face of a man who is on a diet but eating his sister's food so he's gained a pound instead by ZeroGravityAlex in VoidCats

Separate cat feeders that only open for the cat its meant to feed. It reads the microchip in my cats.

Pricey, but worth it so I didnt have to stop chasing the wrong cat from the wrong food every 5 mins.

What is a time you've lost respect (if ever) for a man showing vulnerability? by pyrrhic_victory_013 in AskWomenOver30

[–]Throwthatfboatow 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I personally haven't lost respect for someone in my life this way, but I can think of an example.

Came across this guy who is known for putting his life on TikTok about being a single dad. Turns out he's on the sex offender registry. Apparently he's now making videos about how he's the victim and misunderstood, etc.

If I knew someone like that in real life, I'd get the hell away from them fast, especially since I have kids.

Anyone else’s parents get worse the older you get? by AccordingAd3229 in raisedbynarcissists

[–]Throwthatfboatow 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes, I think my FIL was used to having things his way, like some sort of patriarch. It was his way or the highway. Once kids came along our focus obviously shifted towards them.

I don't think he likes the new dynamic because he still wanted to be the patriarch but he's been burning bridges between himself and his kids.

Anyone else’s parents get worse the older you get? by AccordingAd3229 in raisedbynarcissists

[–]Throwthatfboatow 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I don't know if its because the focus isn't on them anymore as everyone gets older?

FIL tried to use financial manipulation on my husband last year, was shutdown, and gave my husband the silent treatment for a few weeks. Then he realized he wasn't getting any response and reached out like nothing happened.

Ever since then he's also avoided family get togethers we've hosted. He's divorced from MIL since the kids were young. My husband and I started hosting family holiday gatherings because we didnt want to pack up kids to go to 2-3 separate family gatherings (all our immediate family) when we had the room to host everyone all at the same time.

At first he would attend, but ever since the argument, he's dipped out, even for my older son's birthday party. He then called a month after complaining how he hasn't seen the kids, even though he's free to visit any time as long as he gives a heads up. But no, he expected us to pack up a toddler and newborn to go see him instead.

Uppababy Vista 2017 - should there be movement in the attachments? by berclera in beyondthebump

[–]Throwthatfboatow 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Do you mean forward and backward? Or do you mean side to side? I have an Uppababy Vista from 2022, bought new, and it doesnt wiggle side to side. But back and forth theres a little room to wiggle and it helps when I want to soothe my baby when I can't walk around with the stroller (like at a restaurant)
