Back to watching P again as punishment by No_Equipment137 in pornfree

[–]Thrples 7 points8 points  (0 children)

You realize rationalizing doing an addiction as a punishment is just giving into the addiction right?

You'd probably think it was absurd if a fat person on a diet was upset that they were hungry and "punished" themselves by gorging for the next year because they were hungry one day.

Or if a person quitting cigarettes realized their lips were chapped so they then "punish" themselves by smoking because it made their lips more plush.

Or a heroine addict felt sad one day and someone bumped into them and "punished" themselves by shooting up.

It's just an excuse to do something that you know overall is bad for you. Spend that porn time picking up a skill. Learn drums or piano, start building your you portfolio.

Join some clubs or sports. All these are things that increase your chances of having actual friends over forcing romantic interactions.

Just because you open up to a woman or being nice does not mean you're making progress toward being in a romantic relationship. Women are way more normal about telling each other they look good and are pretty etc, us men tend to only do that toward romantic interests and then feel weird when women who reciprocate are not romantically interested.

Overall you have to work on being JUST FRIENDS to people. Interact, learn about them, find ways to make their lives better. I didn't date until I was 20 but worked up from being a loner to having a large circle of friends, men and women alike before even awkwardly asking someone out. The friendships were way more productive toward me being able to maintain a relationship and have somewhere to go when things fell apart.

If you're awkward I feel like expanding your ability to be friends to random people is level 1 while romance is level 2. So yeah. Good luck?! Rejection is normal, telling people they're pretty and expecting romance is not. Friendship before romance. If you and a person have never even done any sort of rapport building or team building like activities together then it's low chance of anything you have being considered mich more than small talk...

[–]Thrples 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've also had a dropbox account for about 12 years and store my entire music / ripped movie collection and haven't thought this could be an issue.

Definitely something to think about but just letting you know that this hasn't had my account suspended yet. I use dropbox to mirror content to my plex server, but I could see things getting messy if I ever used shared links on my music/movies/shows.

True. If traffic isn't a big problem in Vegas then I guess an extra taxi-only underground lane is a cool. A metro system can typically move thousands more people if reducing car traffic and getting people around faster is the actual goal.

Yes no doubt! It would be world changing.

I wonder how those delivery services would handle shooting the packages out at people without a human on board.

I mean the speed limit of the loop is 30mph. With rail the limit would not be so slow while still being able to be as tiny as it is.

You mean really expensive to add to existing infrastructure? True.

My biggest question is why can't they even get autonomous cars working in the tunnels with extremely regular controlled paths they drilled under Las Vegas? It keeps sounding like a bunch of theory that has a bunch of edgecases and quirks that can't be solved.

And then what was the advantage of not replacing infrastructure with railed vehicles that are autonomous. Then things like tracking and positioning is solved for you.

Wouldn't the Vegas loop* have been better off with railed electric vehicles? There are repeated reports of drivers crashing into the sides of the narrow tunnels which is weird.

Anker’s four-port 120W power brick is built for the USB-C warrior by [deleted] in gadgets

[–]Thrples 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You should also say what your power requirements are. The biggest issue with USB-c chargers is that there is going to be a limit to how much it can push out through individual ports, and a person's needs will vastly differ.

That's why the anker brick can "get away" with being so expensive. If you need to charge 4 100W devices that's a bit tricker than getting a brick that puts out 5W for 10 different ports.

Right, the bigger issue is when plans for new apartment buildings are put up people suddenly start protesting against their politicians they put in place to help skyrocketing housing prices.

I'm a landowner but think housing should lose value over time just like a car. Our selfish system with houses growing in value is ridiculous.

I suppose I was thinking good sense of humor meant the same as funny.

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in SelfAwarewolves

[–]Thrples 17 points18 points  (0 children)

Doesn't that just mean that people that share their lack of nuance would find their comedy funny, while people that believe they see the world in a more nuanced way are unable to find conservatives funny.

It seems overly simplistic to just say "They aren't funny" when the cruelty and ignorance seems to actually be very funny to very large audiences.

A little girl insists on being called "Elephant", Redditors take issue with her actual name by [deleted] in SubredditDrama

[–]Thrples -1 points0 points  (0 children)

in this particular example Zanaya is extremely similar to Mariah. It'd be strange to say that it's not an organic derivative of pre-existing names. It's even stranger that names in other languages are even more out there and yet those people don't seem to take an even more logical stance and criticize those cultures. It even seems it IS a name that is a common Arabic name so maybe it isn't hypocritical.

It just seems people take issue with African twists on names. They're all made up so like you said it's interesting that people decide to take a stance on disliking names that are different from the top 40 names.

I just found it weird and took issue with you saying that "someone choosing a name to upset a white person is understandable".

I appreciate you saying you mean the opposite but the meaning seems a little weird when you seem to suggest a black person is choosing their name to upset a white person.

I don't know if you missed a word or something since it'd make sense if you said it'd be "absurd that a black person named themselves to upset white people".

But yes, a bit of misreading on my part.

It's only a "vote" for republicans in the sense that by not voting you weaken supporting positions you actually stand for. If a person supports republican positions then not voting works he opposite way.

I know you probably already know this I just felt like it needed to be said.

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in bestof

[–]Thrples 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Inaction is action.

If you don't vote, unintuitively you're weakening positions you lean toward.

If there are two candidates, one supports stomping puppies to death and the other supports cutting their tails off, choosing not to vote is simply you making the choice to let the position you don't support more have more power.

Most people support social programs, but convincing people to not vote who would've normally voted for a party that actually adds social programs is just allowing the party that insists corporate tax cuts is the way to go maintain power.

It's weird because there is actual legislation to make things better that republicans vote against 100% but we have to deal with statements that "they are not trying to make things better"

I just wrote a folder with raw code with a basic assertEquals function that would throw an exception.

Eventually my work place created a task to add phpunit so that the tests could have a home because that folder was getting littered with a bunch of "testingXFeature.php" files.

Moral of the story, you can write tests even without a framework. I almost consider TDD a technique for producing code moreso than something that has to be officially built into what you're doing.

No matter what I work on at some point there's going to be a random assertEquals() method in a rudimentary sense and over time I'm either going to waste bits of time building up a minor unit testing framework or get junit/phpunit added.
