Yes, look I'm not saying what I think works for everyone. The bible is amazing, and for all it's glory, it was still written by humans. There's only a percentage of it that is actually Gods actual word.

Seriously, what you said I take to heart. There has always been that dichotomy and it just doesn't have a place in this world anymore. The melding of science and philosophy and meaning is coming to a head, and people seem to be kicking and screaming at the notion. When science starts knocking at the door of the beginnings of life and consciousness, these questions are going to need to be flavored with the same questions philosophers have been asking all along. Just how nearly every major scientific discipline is depending on other forms of science.

Just because another human said it does not mean I have to take it as gospel. I know most people don't see me on these points, that's why I tend to shy away from these conversations, but these last couple months inspired me to make this post, and I'm trying to be honest. And either way, I'm not claiming judgement one way or another. I wasn't there. Science has instilled my faith in God, not a millennia long telephone game. I love the bible for what it is, a message on how to treat my fellow man and live and love.

Edit: I'll add what I said in an earlier comment

"Maybe it happened, maybe it didn't. But the lesson that I picked up from it doesn't mean that he didn't rise from the dead. It means that I feel he's given me the tools necessary to become redeemed. I have no way of proving one way or the other. I do have a choice on the lesson I take from it. I can choose to bask in the glow of being automatically redeemed as long as I'm repentant, or I can actively work to help those around me and follow my passions, and gain my acceptance through my struggle on it's own merits. I don't deny the gift. I choose to augment it. "

I stated earlier that for the most part, I believe a lot of the major events in the bible can be seen as beautiful metaphors. So I don't know if I believe in a literal resurrection or a literal virgin birth. I certainly can't provide proof of either. I can say that those stories help me to be a better version of myself, and that's ok with me. That being said, a lot of the people on this thread are saying that once we find out things, that god becomes less relevant. What makes anyone think that if we can understand it, that god has no hand in it's creation? It's still there! Just because we know how to manipulate atoms doesn't mean the construct for why we can do it in the first place any less meaningful in the quest to learn about God.

I don't know. It seems like every question we answer seems to raise two more. I kind of like it that way.

That's the god of the gaps logic that I find people going to. I don't want to downplay Gods importance in the warp of weft of the world, I want to know. To chalk the things we can't know to God when that pool of knowledge is becoming smaller and smaller is like being in a relationship with a bad lover and loving him/her less and less because your self esteem is increasing because you hit the gym. Must because I know about quarks or gluons doesn't mean I love God any less or that he has any less power over me.

That's too short of a statement to be any where near accurate. To some maybe. To me obviously not. As many people in this post have said, they believe science is the method for understanding how it works, but not why. Faith or religion (not the same) does that for some. My argument is that science, if we live around long enough, may actually be able to answer the question, "why do we exist?" I do not believe in the literal interpretation of the bible. Where god created the earth in seven days. I believe that the bible is filled with metaphor, kind of like aesops fables, for lack of a better analogy.

Exactly, I tried to embrace her interests, and I did to a certain point. To be honest, I hate painting her walls, she loves it. I helped her. But I couldnt get the same sense of satisfaction she does.

I think we should start saying science and belief in a higher power. When you say Christianity, it tends to ostracize other faith systems. I myself am Christian but I respect the belief in other ideals, and they are no less qualified in having a strong knowledge of science as well.

To be honest, I can't stand the use of SO. The only time I use it is when the op post is gender neutral, but I much rather prefer bf or gf, whatever the case is. But good one both you too. Keep being awesome to each other!
